After a break of two years, it was great to see the parades and the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations back again. The weather in Sligo wasn’t the best, there were some heavy shower, but it was dry enough for the most part.
I went into town early, I usually do so that I can avoid the crowds, there’s no point in me pushing myself to do something that I’m not comfortable with. I enjoyed seeing the floats getting ready and I stayed near the start of the parade so I could leave early.
The bonus of being in early was that I got to have breakfast in town. There are so many fantastic places to eat in Sligo, we are very lucky. I noticed Baker Boys in Finisklin had a special menu on for the day that was in it, and I spotted a Tayto sandwich so that was my breakfast – and it was amazing. Melted cheese, with caramelised onion, and of course Tayto crisps, the bread is made on site, and it was fabulous. I took half of it home for my lunch.
I also really wanted a fancy hot chocolate, The Blind Tiger have mint aero ones, and I haven’t had one in ages, so I had one of those too. I noticed that they have a ‘create your own’ cheesecake, so I need to go back and do that.
I enjoyed seeing the parade and it was nice to be out taking photos again, I try to capture the atmosphere of the event. I posted them online so people could see them, as I know some people weren’t well and couldn’t go out. There’s always one person though, someone left a comment ‘Great pictures but most had terrible background.’ You can’t please them all can you?

Sounds like a grand day all around Val- and love the photos- so good to see folks out enjoying themselves. I just watched a Brene Brown presentation and I love what she said about naysayers and folks that insult- and Im paraphrasing here- ” easy for them to insult, complain etc while they are sitting in their comfort zone, dont pick up what they say, and dont let them get close to your hearts- just step over them”…Im going to remembering that from now on…Im jsut steping over them 🙂 So happy ypu got to get out and have a lovely time.
