There’s a bit of light as the announcement was made today that sites owned by the Office of Public Works will be allowing people to visit for free this year. This is great news as people are starting to think about holidays this year and are planning days out.
In Sligo the OPW sites are Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Sligo Abbey, but there are sites all over the country that you might enjoy visiting. There is a list on the OPW website of the places that are open at the moment, which you can see here: https://www.heritageireland.ie/assets/uploads/2021/05/heritage_services_site_status_2021_05_11-ver-1.1.pdf and they will be updating the website as other venues reopen. At a quick glance it’s looking like the majority of sites are mainly just opening their outdoor areas but this may change as the Covid situation changes.
