If you are a regular reader of the blog you’ll know that I started a social coffee morning in Sligo. There were two reasons for the morning. One was because at the height of my depression I missed someone to go for coffee with and I wanted others to realise that they aren’t alone. The second reason was to give something back to Havin’aLaugh – the charity who helped me so much.
On Monday we are heading to Carrick-on-Shannon for our first Leitrim coffee morning. Our Happy Place is our host, I reached out to them and they are kindly opening up on Monday for us (it’s usually their day off). I pick the places to host the coffee mornings with anxiety in mind. The Blind Tiger used to be one of the only places I could go into; they have two doors in case I needed to escape and lots of windows so I could see who was in there before I walked in. Our Happy Place is a cafe that supports Social Inclusion and I just love that idea. It’s got a really relaxed, welcoming vibe so perfect for the coffee morning.
The Sligo coffee mornings have now been running for over 2 years but this is a first for Leitrim. I’m worried that people might not show up but I felt the same with the first Sligo one and almost 200 people came along!
You can hear more about the Havin’ A Laugh Charity and the coffee morning on the Leitrim Daily podcast: https://leitrimdaily.com/podcast/whats-on/episode-121-whats-on/ I’m on at around 6 minutes 30.
I have to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated prizes for the raffle, we have some wonderful prizes and you can find out all about them on the event page.
Fingers crossed that people show up on Monday. It’s on Our Happy Place, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim on Monday 11th November from 10am – 12 noon.
