Hooked on Sligo Food

I was delighted to be invited along to Hooked, Sligo for a Mother’s Day dinner for two. As I was busy rehearsing for Sligo Acts at the Hawk’s Well Theatre I wasn’t sure who to bring – and there were 8 of us in our little crew. So we all went!

I love Hooked, it’s one of the newest places to eat in Sligo, it’s got a really cool and quirky interior; a boat hanging from the ceiling, unusual lighting, a cosy corner and a gorgeous view over the river.

Now for the food. The ladies shared chicken wings for a starter, I don’t like wings so I didn’t have anything but if I was going for anything it would have been the prawn cocktail. You can’t beat the retro dishes.

For the main courses we all went for different things. I asked for the beer battered fish with potato gratin instead of chips, what was wrong with me – I didn’t have chips! The fish was the biggest bit of fish I’ve ever seen, it was delicious and I loved the potato gratin too.

Some of the ladies had chicken, others had arancini (these are risotto breaded balls filled with cheese), a couple of the ladies don’t eat gluten so the restaurant were very accommodating cooking the fish without the batter. The portion sizes were great, plenty of food and all delicious. We all agreed that we really enjoyed it and there were empty plates all round.

Of course I had to have dessert – well it was Knickbocker Glory – see retro is best, it was absolutely gorgeous, I’m drooling now just thinking about it. I also got to try a bit of the ice cream sandwich – and this was amazing – buttery cookies filled with Mammy Johnson’s Ice Cream and popping candy – yum.

I was so full up but it was so worth the waddle back up to the theatre.

To top off a wonderful meal there were gorgeous flowers waiting for me from the restaurant. I felt like it was my birthday all over again. Thanks a million Hooked for inviting me along – we all had a fantastic time.

*Disclaimer – I was given two 3 course meals. The rest of the food was paid for.
