Taste of the Lakelands

On Sunday I met up with Lucy and Laurence at the Taste of the Lakelands Food Festival. The festival was held in Lanesborough, Co. Longford which is just on the border of Longford and Roscommon.

To be honest I only found out about this event by accident because a lady on the Irish Bloggers Group posted about it. It was very hard to find out more details or to find the website so perhaps that’s something that can be improved on next year. So we turned up at 10am – only to find that the event didn’t start until 11am. Anyway that said we did enjoy it.

There was a great variety of food stalls and it was lovely to try some of the things that we hadn’t tried before. There were so many samples available so you could have eaten your way around. It was free to get into which was brilliant and I loved that there was free Goodfella’s Pizza for everyone plus free HB ice cream and free Lyons tea.

We also watched a couple of food demos by local chefs and more or less ate our way around the food tent, well I did anyway! It was great to see a stall selling dog biscuits too, my boys are very impressed with the peanut butter bones by Harry’s Dog Bakery. I also really enjoyed Moran’s  Blackcurrant and Guinness Jam and the variety of cakes were fab too.

Lanesborough is a very scenic place located on the banks of the River Shannon just before it joins Lough Ree. I’d certainly go back again to explore the area and might even visit the food festival again next year. The rest of my photos from the day are here.
