We are just home from a fabulous night at Harry’s Gastro Pub. Harry’s is located in beautiful Rosses Point, Co. Sligo on the Wild Atlantic Way.
I’m ashamed to say I’ve never been to Harry’s before but after tonight we’ll definitely be back. I used to think it was just a pub that served food but it’s so much more than that. The restaurant is located at the back of the pub, it’s really quirky with loads of atmosphere and lots to look at. The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was so nice not to be rushed over our meal.
As well as an extensive menu there are also various specials on every day. As Harry’s is right at the sea most of the fish is caught on the same day. There’s even an option to go out on the boat and catch your dinner! (This needs to be booked in advance). The vegetables are almost all locally grown and vary according to what’s available. In our salads we had golden beetroot! Very unusual but they tasted lovely. Eva, the head chef, tells me that square tomatoes will be featured in the salad soon!
Now onto the food and you will be hungry reading this!
For our starters I had prawn and rocket salad, it was a huge portion and this would easily be filling enough as a main course.
Andy had garlic mushrooms, which were served with a side salad and garlic mayo. Both starters were fab.
For our main course I had fish which was served with ‘proper’ chips and a side salad. Andy had steak which was served on a bed of mushrooms and garnished with edible flowers and onion rings. It came with a choice of sauces, proper chips and red cabbage. Both main courses were huge and totally delicious.
Andy couldn’t manage a dessert but I never say no to cake. I had the chocolate mousse cake and in my defence I did share it with Andy – so I’m not a complete pig 😉 I loved the chocolate spoon – what a brilliant idea!
Not only is the food amazing in Harry’s it also has a well in the middle of the restaurant! Well I never! There are even fish in there! If you look closely you’ll see them at the top left. The well is at the centre of one of the tables. How cool is that!? I’d actually like to go for a dip in it but I’d probably get my backside stuck on the way down!
After our fabulous meal we went for a little gander around Rosses Point. It certainly blew the cobwebs off and woke us up! A huge well done to Harry’s for such fabulous food – we will be back and soon! Don’t just take my word for it, check them out yourself, you won’t be disappointed. Check out their Facebook page here (you’ll be drooling at the daily specials). You can find their website here.
Sounds and looks gorgeous, Val.
It was Jean
Wow what a meal. I’ve never been to this one before either. I’ve been to the one that closed down. Can’t remember the name of it. Waterfront I think it’s called. They used to do great food too.
It was fab Janine, I can’t wait to go back
