It’s hard to believe that it’s less than three weeks ago since I put out an appeal for help with Jono’s Journey.
Jono has suffered from poor health for much of his life. The one thing that has kept Jono sane through the long days of pain is Pokemon. Since he was given a GameBoy Color for his birthday one year Pokemon has been a huge part of his life. He’s met some really good friends through the game and this year has managed to get enough points to be invited to the World Championships in San Francisco. He’s one of only two people in Ireland that has achieved this in the 2016 season. Due to his health he couldn’t go on his own and due to money, which is a major stumbling block in our life, I couldn’t afford to go with him.
Encouraged by my friend Heidi I started a crowd funding campaign. I thought we might get around €100 and that we would have been very lucky to get that. Little did I know that within 24 hours we’d have reached the €2500 target! Not only that the money kept coming in.
The flights are now booked! We fly from Dublin to San Francisco on August 16th. So the trip is happening and we have a very excited Jono in the house! We have pre-booked the hotel through booking as we don’t have to pay until we get there. I’m now worrying about how Jono will be on the flight, insurance, how to get from the airport to the hotel, where to eat….you name it I worry about it! I was worrying about the long train trip to Dublin on the morning of the flight until the kind people at the Metro Hotel at Dublin Airport told us they would give us a room the night before.
This really is such a fantastic opportunity for Jono – a once in a lifetime trip and only made possible by the wonderful people out there – most of whom we’ve never even met. In a time where there seems to be so much bad news this really is a good news story.
So a sincere thank you to everyone who donated, shared the story, left lovely comments and those planning to hold fundraising days. We are so grateful to you all.
