On my journey to Erris last week I stopped off at Killala along the way to meet up with Liz and Tony who run The Old Deanery Holiday Cottages. The cottages are located overlooking picturesque Killala Bay at the front and the majestic 12th century Round Tower at the back.
Killala is pretty little village and is ideally located if you want to explore Mayo and Sligo. There is also the Joe Keane Creative Centre right beside the cottages, some of the activities include painting, drama, yoga and creative writing. If you are more adventurous there is surfing, horse riding, golf, fishing and so much more all within easy reach of the cottages.
I was welcomed to The Old Deanery by Liz and her Irish Wolfhound Maeve. We had a great chat and coffee all in front of a roaring turf fire. Do you ever meet someone and feel like you’ve known them for years? Well this was how I felt with Liz, she’s a really lovely lady. So warm and welcoming.
All the cottages have their own open fires with enough turf to keep you warm during your stay – and if ‘summer’ continues as it has been you might well need it!
There are 8 award-winning self-catering cottages. They have all mod cons including wi-fi, TV/satellite and you can even bring your pets. If you want to find out more about the cottages or the creative centre you can find the website here. Or call Liz on (096) 32221
