Electric Escapes

Electric Escapes

When I was in Belmullet I came back to Sligo via Newport and met up with Paul from Electric Escapes as part of my Wild Atlantic Wayfarer journey. I’m on the look out for tourist ideas that ‘middle-aged adventurers’ (like myself) can take part in. Electric Escapes fits the bill perfectly, you can hire an environmentally-friendly Kalkhoff electric bike and head off in small group to explore the hidden Ireland.

Paul somewhere over Mayo

Paul was so friendly and easy-going with a great sense of humour and was so knowledgable about his business and the fabulous area that he lives in. The more I do on this project the more I realise you really do need local guides to tell you all about the area and show you the best places to visit.

Mayo with Electric Escapes

Just ten minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town we were in the most stunning location. The roads are so quiet so it’s very safe to cycle. It really reminded me of when I was a child and used to cycle around the lanes in Galway.

Mountains and lakes

As always I was pushed for time but even on my short trip and cycle with Electric Escapes I saw a heron and a hare. Paul was also telling me there are several otters in the lake and about all the other kinds of wildlife he has seen.

Greenway

I got to cycle along part of the Great Western Greenway which at 42km is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland. The greenway is quite busy with other cyclists and walkers but it’s great to see people of all ages using this wonderful amenity.

Railway cottage

You get to see so much more on a bike than you ever would in a car. The Kalkhoff electric bikes are very easy to use and are suitable for all levels of fitness. Electric Escapes are really on the ball responding to emails and were just so brilliant and flexible with my short visit.

Picnic

The icing on the cake was when I finished my cycle there was a wonderful picnic that Paul had ready for me. All the food was locally sourced and it was such a lovely, thoughtful idea. Paul was telling me that if he has couples going off for a romantic cycle he can leave a picnic ready for them at a scenic location when they stop for a break. What a kind idea! Thanks so much Electric Escapes for a wonderful day I’m definitely coming back again soon.
