A bit of a random blog title but I was trying to think what to call it and was giving myself a headache! This morning started off with the ground covered in hailstones and ice, watching Jono and Lucy walk to the car was like watching the march of the penguins! I should have filmed them 🙂 The photo above was taken overlooking the Coney Island ‘road’ I say road it’s really just a beach, although I’m told there is a bit of tar under the sand. Anyway I digress.

I was delighted to win a meal for two from The Swagman this week. So Lucy and I went along today, I’m sure she’ll do a blog post when she isn’t out gallivanting 😉 We shared garlic mushrooms for a starter, they were lovely and we were given a very cosy table next to the fire. After the freezing cold day it was wonderful to relax and enjoy the lovely atmosphere in the pub.

I had beer battered fish and chips for my main course, there was so much of it though, I couldn’t finish it. We also got peppercorn sauce to dip our chips in because we are just so classy!

Now a visit to the Swagman wouldn’t be complete without the peanut butter stack for dessert. It might not look like much but it’s the perfect combination of peanut butter cake smothered in warm chocolate sauce served with cream and ice cream…yum.

Not only was the food fab but there was also great music from the very talented Wayne O’Connor (who is also a wonderful artist as well as a musician). The great news is that the Swagman also do take aways of everything…including the desserts. At the moment gourmet takeaway pizzas are €10 all week anytime night or day

After all that food I waddled back to my car and looked at the lovely sunset. A lovely end to a great day. Thank you to the Swagman for picking me as a winner…if anyone else wants to give me free food I won’t complain 😉 (chancing my arm).
You always make me smile, thank you
Thanks Barbara
I’ve never had the pleasure of going to the Swagman, but have only ever heard and read great things about it. You win the coolest prizes, Val. 🙂 And that photo of our mighty and majestic Ben Bulben from Coney Island is wonderful too (never been to Coney Island, either…its namesake in Brooklyn, yes, but not the original one here). So many brilliant treasures to be found in Sligo.
All I win are books, Val. Haven’t found any food giveaways, except for fast food drinks or chips. Of course, I don’t have a food blog – not that that would help me in Southern California. I just think Sligo’s restaurants are special places.
Books are a great prize Judy…and you don’t put on any weight. I didn’t win the competition because of the blog, it was a Facebook competition.
where is that swagman place and do they serve food to everybody or just the local big shots ,,,
The Swagman is a pub on Wine Street Patrick. I’m not a big shot by the way I was just lucky enough to win a competition. I go there quite often for lunch.
