I was delighted when I got an email to invite Lucy and I along for a Mother/Daughter weekend at the Yeats Country Hotel in Rosses Point, Co. Sligo. We arrived on a chilly day and were welcomed by smiling faces and a blazing fire.
We were given the key to our room (it was huge!) and had a beautiful sea view, what more could you want?
We had some Spa treatments booked for us in Eros Spa which was just along the corridor from our room.
I can’t praise the Spa enough, it’s a real gem. We got a warm welcome from all the staff who gave us fluffy robes and slippers to change in to and we filled out our consultation forms. It’s the first spa I’ve been to where I was asked what kind of pressure I wanted in my massage…the last massage I had in another spa really hurt me. We were shown to the treatment room and had our faces cleansed and clay masks applied. Lucy had a seaweed bath and I had a botanical bath, I could choose from a variety of different scents. I picked lavender to relax me. I loved that the it was a double bath room, perfect for couples, friends or mothers and daughters so you can chat as you relaxed, we didn’t because I fell asleep…sorry Lucy!
My bath had floating candles in it…it was almost a sin to blow them out but I didn’t want to set fire to myself and knowing me I would have done! We each had a glass of orange juice and water left for us and there was a jug of water left for us which was a really nice touch.
After the baths it was back to the treatment room, again a double room. We were asked if we wanted relaxing treatments or if we wanted everything explained. We went for the relaxation although it was very difficult for me not to talk for that length of time! First we had a Yon-ka facial which was just wonderful. I loved the hot towels on my face. My skin looked brilliant afterwards, really glowing and even looked great the next day. After the facial we had a neck, back and shoulder massages which was great, it really gets rid of the knots.
After our wonderful spa treatments we were shown into the relaxation room. We were given tea and fruit with melted chocolate and watched the sun setting over Oyster Island. Such a perfect end to a wonderful day.
After all that pampering we’d worked up an appetite so we went to the The Elsinore Restaurant (named after the house that WB Yeats and his brother artist Jack B Yeats used to spend their summer holidays, in Rosses Point). The food was wonderful and very reasonably priced at €26 for a four course dinner. I ate way too much!
We decided to go into Sligo town after our meal and the staff were very helpful and called us a taxi. The hotel is only a ten minute journey and with it being located right across the road from both the golf course and the beach it’s in the perfect location to enjoy Sligo.
After our night out we came back to the hotel and both slept really well as the room temperature was just right (very rare in hotels as they are usually way too hot) and it was very quiet.
The next morning I was up before Lucy so I went for a walk. Rosses Point is a really beautiful place to visit, it was very peaceful and there were only a few people around. I went back to the hotel and had a swim in the lovely leisure centre. The sun was streaming through the windows and it was very relaxing being in a warm swimming pool looking out at the sea.
When Lucy woke up we went down for breakfast. We were down at 10am so had to wait a little while for a table, it was worth the wait though. There was a great selection of food including about six different cereals, brown, white and soda bread, various different fruits and of course a fried selection. It’s a buffet breakfast so you can eat as much as you like. My breakfast kept me going for the whole day.
We had such a wonderful stay it was a shame when we had to leave. I’d highly recommend the Yeats Country Hotel for anyone coming to Sligo. They hold various events including murder mystery weekends (which sound like great fun!) They are also perfect for families with the swimming pool (including a children’s pool) and in walking distance to the beautiful clean beach. You can check out their website here.
If you aren’t looking for accommodation it’s worth just visiting for the spa alone. I’ll certainly be back again. Thanks so much to Tara and all the staff at Yeats Country Hotel, especially the fabulous spa staff for such a wonderful time.
Bliss!!!
