Our visit to Hull

HullThis is a long overdue blog. In October the kids and I went to Hull for a couple of days. I’ve never been there before so didn’t really know what to expect, I’d used tripadvisor to find out places of interest that we could visit. We flew into Liverpool airport so it was a fair old drive (especially on the way back at 1am!)

Holiday InnWe stayed in the Holiday Inn Express, St. Stephens. It was above the shopping centre and next to the railway station so really handy for everything. I hated the sofa bed I had to share with Lucy though, it was so uncomfortable and I kept getting elbows in my head!

TreesI woke up at 7am and went exploring, everything was within walking distance to the hotel. We got to visit The Deep, which is a huge aquarium. We spent a couple of hours in there, it’s quite expensive to get into and there was a bit of a queue but it was worth it.

Fish

We also went to a couple of museums, we especially liked the Streetlife museum which had all kinds of transport and was set out like an old street. It’s free to get into the museums and we spent a good couple of hours looking around, they don’t mind people taking photos which is brilliant.

Streetlife museumWe got to look around the shopping centres. I loved Princes Quay, it was beside the water and they gave out free fish food for people to feed the fish. What a great idea! The fish were jumping out of the water to get the food, the only trouble is they moved so quickly I failed at getting a photo.Humber BridgeWe even got to see Skyfall at the cinema (it’s mad having to book though! I’ve never had to book a film in Sligo). I thought I’d hate the film because I’m not a Bond fan but it was fantastic!

Toad in the HullHull is a wonderful place, so much to see and do. The people were very friendly, the only thing I was surprised about were all the ‘cash converter’ shops. Poor Jono bought a ’15’ DVD in one of them and got asked for ID…bless him. I wouldn’t mind going back to Hull again but only if we could fly to a nearer airport. The rest of my photos are here.

    1. Thanks đŸ™‚ I never thought about going there either but Lucy wanted to see her friend so we turned it into a holiday. I love exploring different places and Hull was really interesting.

  1. Long time since I visited Hull, it’s come a long way. Love your photos Val. The nearest airport would be Leeds/Bradford and would take approx 1-1.5 hours to get to hull from there.
