There are some projects that you enjoy… and then there are the ones that stay with you long after the work is done. The Sligo PPN Community Voices podcast is firmly in the second category.
I’ve been working on this series for a while now, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most rewarding pieces of work I’ve ever been involved in. Each conversation offers a window into the heart of community life in County Sligo – the dedication, the resilience, the quiet determination of people who are making a real difference where they live.
And what strikes me most is this: no two stories are the same.
From grassroots initiatives to long-established groups, every episode brings a new perspective. I come away from each recording inspired, and often deeply moved, by the people I meet – people who give their time, energy and passion to support others, often without any expectation of recognition.
That’s why this podcast matters.
It shines a light on work that can sometimes go unseen, and it creates a space where those voices can be heard, shared and celebrated.
I’m almost halfway through the series now (which feels both exciting and slightly surreal!), and I’d love to hear from more groups. If you’re part of a community group that is a member of Sligo PPN and you’d like to be featured on the podcast, please do get in touch. Your story deserves to be told.
And if you’re involved in a community group that isn’t yet part of the PPN, it’s well worth looking into. Membership is free, and from what I’ve heard time and again in these conversations, it’s invaluable. Groups talk about access to funding opportunities, but just as importantly, they talk about connection:
About having a voice.
About having a seat at the table.
About being part of something bigger.
That sense of belonging, of shared purpose, of knowing you’re not working in isolation – it’s powerful. This podcast series has reminded me, again and again, just how strong and vibrant our communities are. And I feel very lucky to play even a small part in sharing those stories.
If you haven’t had a listen yet, I’d really encourage you to dip into an episode or two. You might just come away feeling as inspired as I do. You also might discover a group that you can join, or an organisation that you can get involved in. You can listen here: https://www.sligoppn.com/podcast/ or on Spotify.
