Sunday Thoughts

I don’t know about you, but it feels like January has lasted for at least 300 days! We are finally at the last Sunday in the month, and I did notice a grand stretch in the evening last night. I can’t complain, because when I think back to this time last year, we were sitting in a dark, cold house, with no form of heating and no way to cook a meal. That was all thanks to Storm Eowyn, they were very dark days, and not just because of the power outage.

Anyway, I’m not going to dwell on the dark days. It’s been a while since I’ve done a Sunday Thoughts blog post. Actually it was last year! I recorded a spoken version at the start of the month, so you can listen to that here if you want to.

Things are good, all except for my sleep pattern, which is all over the place, again. I’ve got into a really bad habit of listening to an audiobook when I wake up during the night. So far I’ve fallen back to sleep listening to Rick Astley, and now Phil Collins. I would never read an autobiography, but I do love listening to them.

In fact, Alison Steadman’s audiobook gave me a bit of confidence. I had serious imposter syndrome a couple of weeks ago, and almost turned down an opportunity, because I didn’t think that I’d be able to do it. Alison’s mum used to encourage her to say ‘I can, and I will’, and it prompted me to say yes, instead of saying no. So, thank you Alison, if you are reading this – in my dreams she is! I really am my own first enemy. I doubt myself at everything.

Have you been watching The Traitors? I was fully invested in it, and I think it was the best season so far. I won’t give you any spoilers, but I was delighted with the winners. I’d be no good at it at all, I pull too many faces, and I’d give the game away.

I met a couple of friends over the weekend, for coffee and a catch-up. It’s so nice to see people in real life. I spend so much time online, so it makes such a nice change.

Speaking of online, I’ve been working on some posts of community groups and clubs. So far, I’ve done a post for Sligo, and one for Leitrim. The next one will be Roscommon. I’d love this to be a nationwide thing, but that’s a mammoth job. I’ve had quite a lot of support about it, and was on Mid West Radio during the week, speaking about the importance of people having a space where they can make connections and meet others. You can listen to that below.

I’ve also had a lot of people telling me that this has already been done, through meetup, etc. There are a lot of groups on meetup, but not all the groups are there, and I don’t think I’m doing any harm by compiling something like this. If even one person finds a club or group that’s of interest to them, that’s good enough for me. I should be used to the naysayers by now, but I don’t think I ever will be.

I think that’s about all my news for now. Thank you for reading, and I hope you are keeping well.
