Sunday Thoughts

It’s been the busiest week that I’ve had in a long time, but it’s also included a bit of everything, and variety is certainly the spice of life for me. Even though mid-week I was flattened, it was so worth it. Before I continue – did you remember to put your clocks back? I know we will have a couple of weeks of wondering what’s the old time and what’s the new time…….

It’s that time of year when we are looking for the glimmer of light. I don’t like grey, flat days, and I always look for the glimpse of sunlight. It was like that on Monday, I left home in a mist of grey and dull, and as I was driving towards Boyle I could see the sun on the horizon, so I had to stop at the Gaelic Chieftain, to take a moment. It’s all about the moments of calm for me, and finding things that lift my spirits.

Monday morning was wonderful though. I’m working on a project for Momentum called Inclusive Paths, it’s looking at the difference that animals can make to the wellbeing of people, and it’s such an important and special project. I visited Knockvicar Alpacas, and I heard all about the work they are doing, and about the people they are helping. I’ll post the video when it’s online. For now you can read about the Inclusive Paths project here. I’m looking for other organisations and people in Ireland that work in animal assisted intervention, and animal assisted therapy, especially Equine Therapy, so if you know of anyone please send them my way.

Wednesday was one of those days were I could have done with roller-skates to get around the place. It’s mad how so many things all happen on one day. It started with a meeting, and it was one of those meetings where the sparks of ideas started flying in my head. I love meetings like that, they don’t happen enough, but they are wonderful when they do happen.

The meeting was quickly followed by the opening of the Rituals store in The Canopy, Sligo. I was invited to this (and I’m not usually invited to anything – which is both a blessing and a curse). I love seeing new businesses opening in Sligo and beyond, and I’m a big fan of Rituals, so I was delighted to go along. Read all about it here.

After Rituals, I flew into The Brasserie – Sligo newest cafe, to meet the owner Greg. I’ve been back for breakfast too. Read about that here.

My next stop was a lovely event in The Food Hub, Drumshanbo, it was for the Food Eco-Culture Project, and it was wonderful to hear from people in the food and hospitality industry. I may have fangirled over Benny from Benny’s Deli too – not for the first time either – sorry Benny. It was lovely to catch-up with some of my work colleagues too.

Thursday I was back to the Inclusive Paths project, and a visit to Quarryfield Farm. I have such fond memories of the farm, when I was at my lowest Kelly invited me to cuddle a lamb. It made such a difference to me back then, the thought that someone cared about me. Anyway, I’m rambling now, but to cut a long story short, I interviewed Kelly and Gerald for the project, and I heard all about social farming. I even got to walk Bernie the pig!

I met my lovely friend for coffee on Friday, it’s always great to catch up with her and put the world to rights.

I have two things to tell you about before I let you go:

I was kindly sent a fantastic Sligo hoodie, it’s the only thing to wear in this weather, and Áit Apparel has given my lovely followers a 10% discount, just put in the code MAGNUMLADY10 They have clothing and mugs for every county in Ireland. I’ve just bought a Sligo t-shirt to go with the hoodie. Shop here.

My 2026 Calendar is still for sale, you can buy your copy here, it’s not available in any shops.

Next week is quieter for me, it’s a bank holiday tomorrow, and I’m doing nothing except reading. There are a few medical appointments next week for the family, so hopefully they will go OK. I hope you are all keeping well, and thank you for reading.
