Tantalising Tapas in Stoked, Strandhill, Sligo

I have so many blogs to catch up on, and so many things to tell you all about. If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that my daughter Lucy is getting married soon. I had a few different treats lined up for her as a ‘mini mother and daughter hen’, and a visit to Stoked was one of them.

I can’t begin to tell you how amazing it was. The food is out of this world, and there is something for everyone. Lucy is vegetarian, so we just had vegetarian dishes, and what a range there was to choose from. Not just the usual curry and stir fry that seems to be the standard vegetarian offering in so many places. Stoked have really thought about their menu, and each dish is perfection.

They recommend you pick 2-3 globally inspired tapas dishes each. Or there are also bigger plates on the menu, so you’d only need one of them. I do love the idea of tapas though, because you get to try different dishes, and share with each other.

The restaurant has two rooms, and it’s a vibrant place, with a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and surfboards on the walls.

Now to the food, and I know I’ll be hungry just writing about it! We had Burrata, which came with salsa, chilli crunch and a corn tostada, Fried Aubergine Bao, Patatas Brava, and my two absolute favourite dishes (which I can’t stop thinking about!) – Korean Cauliflower Wings – perfect crunchy wings, packed with flavour. As for the Szechuan Aubergine, oh my goodness! This is a vegan dish, and Shane the owner told us that it’s one of their most popular dishes, and I can see why. It didn’t even taste like aubergine!

Even though we were full, we couldn’t turn down dessert. The dessert menu changes regularly, and they use seasonal ingredients in some of the dishes. For example, the day we were there they had a plum tart, with plums grown locally.

We went for the Dark chocolate and honeycomb mousse, and the pistachio and cherry pavlova, both were incredible. Shane kindly bought us out a Basque cheesecake to try, this is another favourite in the restaurant.

It was all absolutely gorgeous and a meal that I won’t forget in a hurry, I thought it reasonably priced too. You’ll be glad to know that they also have gluten-free options (this is one of the things I’m asked most about on the blog).

Stoked is located above The Strand Bar. I’d recommend booking because it’s a busy spot, and rightly so. Take my word for it, pay a visit, you’ll be stoked that you did. Check out their website here: https://stokedstrandhill.ie/
