Firstly, happy new year to you all. I hope that 2025 is everything you wish for. Secondly, thank you to each and every one of you who took time to read the blog, leave a message, comment on the Facebook page, share posts, etc. It’s all thanks to you that 2024 was the most popular year for the blog, with a whopping 167,017 views! I’m over the moon with those figures! The blog has had 1,263,343 views since I started it! That’s incredible!
The blog turns 16 next month, it’s probably one of the oldest blogs at this stage, and I still feel like I’m winging it! I just write what I feel and what I see, and it seems to be working OK. I’d love to have a sponsor for the blog, but that hasn’t happened yet. Before I go down that rabbit hole, I’m going to look at the most popular blog posts of 2024:

- They paved paradise and put up a parking lot – this was about the work that was done at Derreen ‘bluebell’ woods, just outside Knockvicar in Roscommon. I got quite a lot of flack for this post, but I stand by what I said. I think there could have been another solution.
- Sligo’s Newest Cafe Opens – Susie’s Bistro. There is always a lot of interest in the food blog posts, and this topped the food posts for 2024.
- Jenny’s Cafe – From the Ground Up – Opens in Charlestown, County Mayo. Jenny opened her second café in 2024, this is a sister to the one in Tubbercurry.
- Favourite Places in Sligo for a Sandwich – As Recommended by The Blog Readers – I decided to ask my blog readers for their suggestions for a change.
- Cafes and Restaurants open on Sunday in Sligo. It’s quite hard to find up to date information, so with the help of my readers we compiled a list of places open on a Sunday. Of course this would almost be a fulltime job updating it.
- Moore Hall, County Mayo. It’s not all food! I also write about places that I’ve visited, and the walk at Moore Hall has been very popular.
- Favourite places for Coffee and Cake in Sligo, as recommended by the blog readers. So many wonderful suggestions in this.
- High Street, Sligo. A blog post about the building/buildings on the High Street.
- The Lilliput Way, Roscommon. Another gorgeous walk, and so worth a visit.
- The Oldest Shop in Ireland. This is in County Mayo, and is not just a beautiful gift shop, it also has such a history.

I’d also like to mention the podcast, this is my newest ‘baby’, and was started in May 2024, during a podcasting course I was doing with MSLETB. It’s been listened to over 2000 times, which I’m delighted with. You can listen to all the episodes here, or on Spotify, etc.
A huge thank you again, for the views and the listens, and a very happy new year to you all.
