Sunday Thoughts

It’s the last Sunday in October and the clocks went back in the early hours of this morning, so we’ll have a few days of wondering what the time is in old time and new time! I slept really well last night which is nothing short of a miracle after all the nights of book related nightmares!

I’ve been dreaming that the book arrived in single pages, that it was a tiny book and that I had to glue it together. Hopefully this time next week I might have a physical copy and I can breathe again. I’ve been posting a few pics that didn’t make the book and people are saying to put them in the next book, I don’t think my nerves could take another one! Or maybe it’s like giving birth, you forget the stress when you are holding the baby. I think this stage is the worst part because I have no control in this part, it’s all down to the printer. I just have to trust the process, and that’s a difficult thing for me to do.

It’s Halloween on Thursday so my latest podcast is very fitting. It’s a chat with Elaine from Rathcroghan in Roscommon. This is said to be the birthplace of Halloween and I really enjoyed hearing all about it. You can listen to the podcast here

We were over at Lucy’s on Friday, it was a nice little break, I even got to explore a little bit, even though the weather wasn’t the best, the demesne is a wonderful walk, you can read more about it here. I also went to Benny’s Deli in Castlerea – so there’s a Leitrim loaf in my freezer of happiness. I was hoping to try the newest cafe in Ballaghaderreen but they weren’t open when they were meant to be (I hate that!) So I went to Durkin’s, an old favourite of mine and I’m glad I did because I got the cutest little ghost on my coffee!

I was up bright and early yesterday (book nightmares!), so I headed off to Enniscrone. I watched the brave swimmers – there’s not a hope I would get into the sea without a winter wetsuit on. I was cold just looking at them. There were a couple of coffee carts at the pier and I went to the one that didn’t have a queue. I’m glad I did because I had a lovely chat with the owner and enjoyed my coffee and vegan sausage roll.

Onwards to the Abhainn Studio, which is a lovely addition to Enniscrone. I visited the ANAM exhibition, this was by the Easkey Artists Collective. It’s well worth a visit, I was particularly interested in the little pots made out of recycled tea bags. Anam is a Gaelic word meaning Soul. Inspired by the Celtic tradition of honouring our ancestors and the contemplative energy of the darker months of the year. There are some really lovely pieces in the exhibition and it’s on until November 23rd, the studio is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am – 6pm.

On the way home I stopped at Pudding Row in Easkey.  I’m sad because they will be closing on Monday. They’ve been in the village for ten years and their brownies are some of the best in Sligo, of course I bought a few to put in the freezer. I wish Dervla and Johnny all the very best for the future, they will be missed.

I think that’s all my news for now, thanks as always for reading. The image at the top of the blog is a beautiful field full of wildflowers in Rathlee, it was so pretty that I had to stop to take a photo.
