Mindfulness for the Creative Sector Event at The Leitrim Design House

Yesterday I went along to the Mindfulness for the Creative Sector | Creative Minds event hosted by The Leitrim Design House and the Leitrim Local Enterprise Office, at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon. I wasn’t too sure about the mindfulness part, if you read the blog you’ll know about my history with mindfulness, if you missed it you can read about it here.

I need not have worried, because Fran Best, from Lissawell Coaching, who hosted the mindfulness section is brilliant, I’m a big fan of her work, and there was no forcing anyone to do anything that they weren’t comfortable with. Also Fran explained that mindfulness is different for different people, so we’re on the same page.

Fran encouraged people to reframe their negative thoughts, and also to value their worth (something I need to learn). She also talked about goal setting and action plans, it was all really interesting.

Barry Murphy was the next speaker, and I’ve known Barry online for years, but never actually met him. He’s as sound in real life as he is online, and it was a pleasure to chat to him. Barry runs Murphy Marketing and his presentation was ‘Marketing in an Artificial World’. I haven’t dabbled in AI at all, but it was very interesting to hear about it, warts and all. Barry told us all to be authentic, this I can get behind, I’m probably too honest and authentic at times. He also told us to do videos and show our audience exactly what we do, and why we do it.

We also heard about the supports of the Local Enterprise Office, The Leitrim Design House, Creative Heartlands, and about other things of interest. We also got to chat to the other people in the room. I love chatting to other creatives, and I met a goldsmith, a puppet maker, textile artists, and so many more people. Sorry to Johnnie Lawson for fangirling over him – his videos are stunning, and they’ve had millions of views! Check out one of Johnnie’s videos below:

Thanks to to Leitrim Design House for running this event, it was very enjoyable.
