Some of the Favourite Businesses in Sligo

This post was compiled in January, 2023. I’m updating it now, so if you have any suggestions just let me know.

I put a call out on my social media channels and on The Heart of Sligo Facebook group to find out what people’s favourite businesses were in Sligo and I was inundated! Most of the suggestions were food related, but there were some shops suggested too. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and I’ll update the post.

2024 suggestions

Joe said: Val Devaney’s Heating & Boiler Maintenance – absolutely lovely guy, helped me with a boiler problem last week and took the time to make sure the repair was more user friendly for me with my sight issues. Total gent.

Lily said: Kate’s Kitchen Sligo and The Little Cottage Cafe in Rosses Point, amongst so many others.

Camilla said: Pasta Fresca, Sligo and Bella and Brava in Coolaney.

Aine said: My favourite brown Bread has to be from Baker Boys (along with everything else).

Dee said: Crazy Daisy Florist Beautiful blooms and friendly professional staff. Treasures Forever by Ann – Ireland so easy to deal with and creative. Peaches and Cream Beauty Salon nothing is too much trouble and come out feeling replenished. McLaughlins bar always a great welcome and a laugh.


2023 suggestions

Pippa said: So many lovely places! My favourites are –
Liber – Really friendly bookshop with great staff and books.
All Things Natural – Huge choice of eco friendly refills and earth/health friendly products.
P F Dooney – Gorgeous woollens and very friendly.
Ósta Cafe – great menu, beautiful location and lovely staff.
Music Room – Great range of instruments as well as memorabilia.
Golden Discs – Brilliant prices of CDs. I always drive back home with something great to sing along to! (poor kids ….😂)

From Christine: Every time I come to Sligo I love to go to Davis’s always a great welcome and great food . Also a good local employer.

Ann said: Davis’s restaurant ,Drumcliff,and The Venue Strandhill,lovely food and friendly staff.

From Renate: One of my favorite restaurants is Shells “You, me and the sea“ in Strandhill: delicious food, nice service, great view!

John said: Coach Lane Restaurant, the best food in Sligo.

From Kathryn: The Wellness Centre -Staff are amazing! And just for a dose of self care- every vitamin, mineral, spice and whatever else you need sold here(or will order especially).
All Things Natural. As the name suggests also the woman who owns it has put her heart and soul into it.So ambitious and inspirational.
Lyons café – lovely staff food, building and view from the big old windows.
Ósta Cafe by the river, blankets to keep you warm, and lovely staff here too.

Mary, Jenny and Mercedas said: Molly Fultons has the best food. Jenny said “You are always guaranteed a fabulous meal and never leave hungry. The staff are fantastic and its great value. The Knickerbocker Glory is scrummy”

Jillian, John and Faye said: Cosgroves Deli is number one for them.

From Ann, Steve and John: Michael Quirke, an amazing legend of a man. Steve said “Michael Quirke is a Woodcarver Extraordinaire of Wine Street. He is one of Sligo’s true treasures. Wonderful woodcarvings steeped in Irish myth and legend.”

Valerie said: Vinnie Middleton – shoe repairs! Does bags and a whole lot more – plus the news of the town as you wait !! Behind the Swagman Bar, Wine Street.

Maria suggested: The Cat and the Moon

Jenny said: Liber bookshop, the staff go above and beyond for any special requests. They contact my Mum any time one of Danielle Steele’s new books come in.

From Judi, Brid and EZexploring: WB’s Coffee House, Judi loves their oat scones EZexploring said Sligo Oysters at WB’s is an amazing experience. Highly recommend. Aisling& the staff are always fantastic.

Noreen and Marian said: Lyon’s Cafe, the food is amazing.

From Fiona: The Hamilton Gallery above The Cat and the Moon lifts the heart every time.

From Valerie: Dock 84 – when I can’t make it into town. And when I do The Glasshouse Hotel – love sitting by the window and watch the world go by!

Elaine said: Walkers – great food, nostalgic old McG’s floor.

From Eileen: Tempo in Ballisodare. Great food and lovely atmosphere.

John said: Hargadon’s – lovely atmosphere, I love the booths, and the food always wonderful and quite unique.

From Sinead: Davey Motors, Mullen&McLoughlin, Connollys, Sligo Mental Health Unit, Sligo Cancer Support Centre.

Philip said: The Record Room

From Meg: I go to Cliffoney Hair & Beauty Salon, ten minutes from home, loads of free parking, highly professional stylists, very, very affordable. For the odd foray into eyebrows I love Bernie’s Beauty Salon which is fabulous, and really friendly and professional. And a shout out to All Things Natural where you take your own vessels in, and get refills of natural, organic cleaning products etc. They stock wholefoods and natural beauty ranges, they need supporting

Nora said: Nook in Collooney. And Shells in Strandhill. Excellent food in both. Never disappoints.

Emma said: Kate’s kitchen, another great Sligo treasure trove!! Always spend more than I’m planning, their range is just too darn good!
The Cat and the Moon is another fantastic shop. Beautiful pieces, always find something there.

From John: “I love Shells, simply because I love their fish n’chips, but often I have to go without as they always seem to be so busy and hard to get a seat.. I used to love Sweet Beat.
Same story with Honestly, love them but not been to the Strandhill place.
Strandhill itself being a challenge being so popular as sometimes parking can be a challenge.

Bridget said Fabios is her choice.
