Sunday Thoughts

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Sunday Thoughts blog post. I hope you are all keeping well, it’s hard to believe that it’s almost mid-November, and I really don’t like the dark evenings, but it’s good to remember that they don’t last forever. It’s also good that we’ve had some lovely sunny days too.

It’s been a busy time with the Hands of Sligo, and it was wonderful to see some of people who were part of it when I was at the Gate Lodge. I was quite nervous being there to begin with, but lots of people came along, and I really enjoyed the chats, although I was quite hoarse at the end of the day. The South Sligo hands are in Tubbercurry Library, and Stephen and Marie there are just brilliant at telling people all about it. I took one of the models from the model maker in to show them, and everyone who has seen it is so impressed, you can see some photos of the models, and hear the story behind them here.

I did a very rare thing and bought myself a present for doing so well with the Hands of Sligo. I never buy myself anything (except cake), and this was such a big achievement for me, so I thought I’d treat myself to a ring from Martina Hamilton. It’s also important that it’s something to do with hands and that it’s made in Sligo.

I’m in Shop Sligo mode now, and that’s proving to be very popular, I only have a few spaces left, so if you are interested get in touch as soon as possible.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve met with a lot of people, and I’m amazed at how resilient some people are. I’d love people to stop and think about how brave and powerful they are, I don’t think people realise it when they are going through things. I’ve heard such courage and I think these voices could really help other people who might be going through similar situations. That’s another thing that’s come from the Hands of Sligo; me realising how powerful voices are, and that we all have a story to tell that might inspire others. If the two ladies I’m thinking of are reading this post I’d like to say I’m in awe of them, they are incredible.

On that note I’ll love you and leave you. Do look after yourselves and I’m sure I’ll be back with another blog post soon.

  1. I’m so glad I went to see the Hands of Sligo exhibition, it’s so heartwarming and you can see a lot of hard work and kindness was put into it.
And good on you Val for treating yourself, you need to be kind to yourself as well.
