Sunday Thoughts

The end of another week, and it’s been such lovely weather for October, not really October weather because it’s been so mild. That changed today and there was a real nip in the air, but watching the sunrise and the mist lifting this morning was beautiful.

Things are grand, plans being made for the Hands of Sligo exhibition, I’ll tell you more about that when I know the full details.

This week has shown me a negative side of social media, it does strike occasionally, but usually people have been nice to me. I had a couple of messages to my personal Facebook account complaining about things I’d shared on The Heart of Sligo group. Both posts were to promote things in Sligo, but somehow they wound some people up. It’s grand and all, but when people start throwing the ‘Brit’ word around it becomes a bit personal. My parents are Irish, by the way, in case anyone else wonders.

This came at a time where I’ve been starting to get disillusioned about my constant promoting of Sligo. There were a couple of things that happened over the last few months that hit home that it really isn’t my circus, or my monkey, and I will never be invited to the table when it comes to Sligo tourism.

The social media hassle just feels like a final nail in the coffin, and I’m at a bit of a pause now, while I think things over. The blog will of course, remain, it’s like a part of me, and my blog readers are mostly lovely. The group will stay too, but at the moment I’ll take a break on sharing things, people are welcome as always to share their Sligo events, photos, etc. And I’m lucky to have two wonderful admins on that group too, who are keeping things ticking over.

The blog will go back to the things that I’m involved in, and the things that I feel passionate about, or photos that I’ve taken.

I have seen and learnt about places, events, history and people through your eyes. It is lovely to hear also about other Counties and her about places I have visited. Keep up your amazing work Val.
