If you are coming to Sligo, or if you live in Sligo, one of the experiences that you need to visit is Atlantic Sheepdogs. When I went along I wasn’t sure what to expect apart from sheep and dogs obviously. I joined a group of about twenty people of all ages and we were welcomed by Martin Feeney who has turned his job as a sheep farmer into a multi award-winning tourist attraction.

Situated a stones throw from Streedagh beach with stunning views of Slieve League and Benbulben, Atlantic Sheepdogs is based on a working sheep farm.

I was blown away by the whole experience and so were the other visitors. Martin is a fascinating person to listen to and the whole experience was very interactive with questions welcomed and the little people involved as much as possible. We saw Jack, the sheepdog, rounding up the sheep – what an intelligent dog!

Martin told us about the various breeds of sheep and how each of his working sheepdogs understand their own language. We also got to cuddle lambs including one which was only a day old. I learned so much during the hour I was there but I won’t tell you about it all because you’ll enjoy it yourself.

I would recommend this experience to both tourists and locals – it was so interesting. You can find them on Facebook here and check before you visit to see if they are open.
Love the blog Val. Martin has certainly put Streedagh #heartofsligo #heartofireland on the map, like yourself. Great to hear all your updates promoting a beautiful place.
