Winter Solstice in Sligo

Today was Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. From here on in the days get longer and hopefully brighter because it’s been a fairly dull winter.I couldn’t sleep last night, well I got about 3 hours of sleep.

I was pondering on the all important questions in the middle of the night:
Shall I go to Asda in Enniskillen? It’s open 24 hours (I talked myself out of it).
I wonder if I’m better at Candycrush in the middle of the night? (I’m not)
Is the Cats the movie really as bad as they said it is? (I’ll find out when I go and see it)
Will the dogs look at me like I’ve lost the plot if I get up now (yes)
Are the Christmas lights on in Sligo now? (I’ve no idea)

After waiting for what felt like a fortnight of trying to get back sleep I gave in and got up. I decided to head into Sligo town and see if the Christmas lights were on, they weren’t so I actually haven’t seen them this year. I did enjoy walking around and taking photos though. At one point it was just me and the resident heron, so lovely and peaceful.

I did a bit of shopping when the shops opened and treated myself to a Santa Hot Chocolate in Heart’s Desire. This is my annual tradition, it’s very naughty but so nice. A Lindt chocolate Santa drowned in hot milk – the perfect treat.

I visited Rathcormac Artisan Food and Craft Market and got lots of lovely goodies including some presents, cookies and a gorgeous curry for my dinner. It’s a lovely market to visit with a great atmosphere.

It was a lovely way to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning but I hope I sleep tonight.
