Congratulations to Mary from Aclare in Co. Sligo who was crowned the National Winner in the Brown Bread Baking Competition! (yes there is such a thing!)
The National Brown Bread Baking Competition was held in association with the National Ploughing Association (NPA) and the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA) in September 2017. All four judges agreed that Mary’s bread achieved the highest quality standard.
Mary’s brown bread is being baked daily by one of Aldi’s long-term bakery suppliers, Stapleton’s of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. Its high-quality ingredients include Buttermilk, Wheat Flour, Course Wholemeal, Bran, Wheatgerm, Oat Bran, Honey and Cream.
Commenting on the process of taking her brown bread recipe from her home in Sligo to the shelves of Aldi stores nationwide, Mary said, “I’m thrilled to think that my brown bread, which I make daily for family and friends, will now be available seven days a week for customers to buy and taste in every Aldi store all over Ireland!”
Well done Mary, Sligo is proud of you!
