Lunch at the Riverside

Riverside Hotel

Lucy and I were invited along to lunch at the newly re-opened Riverside Hotel in Sligo. We had been watching it on Fleadh TV and it looked lovely so we were delighted to go along and check it out. As the name suggests it’s on the riverside…it’s a perfect location to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal watching the swans glide along the river.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and from what I’ve seen of it, it looks lovely. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we were greeted by manager Joe Grogan.

Joe showed us through to the restaurant which was bright and airy. The lunch menu is very nice, there are some daily specials as well as the set menu and plenty of choice from paninis to hot lunches.Tandoori chicken

We went straight for the main course. I had tandoori chicken which was very nice – the chips were a winner! Lucy had fish and chips. Both dishes came with a side salad and both portions were huge. It was a struggle to finish it all.

I had a look at the dessert menu, just for the sake of research you understand. To be honest I wanted one of everything! I was torn between the meringue and the banoffee pie – the banoffee pie won. It was amazing! Probably the thickest layer of cream I’ve ever seen – ooh I’m a poet!

Once again we waddled away – one of these days I won’t fit through the door! Thanks to the Riverside for being so hospitable, we had a lovely lunch.  You can find the Riverside Hotel here

  1. The food looks lovely, your photos are brilliant, I’ve been here on a Sunday when they have the jazz music and I love the Annie West prints of Yeats dotted around the restaurant.
