It was a beautiful, sunny day on Friday and I had an hour to spare so I decided to pay a visit to the ruins Killaspugbrone Church near Strandhill, Co. Sligo. Killaspugbrone is one of the ‘Sligo Walks’ and is part of a longer looped walk which you can find out about here.
I usually walk from Strandhill but as I was short on time I parked near the airport and walked down from there – not on the runway I hasten to add! Just as well as the Irish Coast Guard helicopter was hovering!
It’s a lovely walk although the ground is a bit uneven in places so you need to have your wits about you when you are walking there – not like me who is so busy tweeting or taking pics whilst walking I almost go flying.
Rumour has it that St. Patrick lost a tooth here. I don’t know if it just fell out or if he fell over and knocked it out! I suppose I’ll never know although I think it’s the latter especially judging by the amount of times I’ve almost fallen over there.
There’s also an old cemetery there, someone once told me that bodies had ended up on the beach caused by erosion but I’ve never see a body there…well not yet anyway.
