Rip off Ireland

A really old photo taken at Malahide Castle, Dublin…..only because this is a blog about Dublin. Not because Malahide Castle is a rip off.

Now to get to the point. One of Jono’s favourite artists is Owl City. There is a concert on in The Academy on Monday and we’ve had it booked for ages. I had also booked The Gresham Hotel because it’s such a lovely place and Jono has never been there. Anyway Lucy decided to come with us so I emailed The Gresham to change the twin room to a triple. I was given the price of over 70 euro more. I checked on the website and realised I had been quoted 15 euro more than on the website.

I emailed back but got no reply so I phoned instead and got a very snotty nosed lady who told me I was looking at the room only rate and not the B&B rate. Now I’m not stupid and I had looked at both rates and both were less than the price I was given. She was very off-hand with me and then said the room rates change on a daily basis. Now I’d been checking these prices every day and they hadn’t changed. I asked to speak to the manager but he wasn’t ‘available’.

I really wasn’t impressed with the way I was spoken to so I decided to try elsewhere and found a room with breakfast for the 3 of us for 50 euro cheaper. It’s at Wynn’s Hotel and is just down the street from The Gresham. In the meantime I got an email back from The Gresham saying I had indeed been right and was quoted the wrong price…..what would have happened if I hadn’t questioned it though?

I replied to the email and said I didn’t appreciate the way I’d been spoken to and was taking my custom elsewhere. That was on Thursday, no reply since. It’s a shame because Jono would have loved to have stayed there but they really need to learn some customer service.

UPDATE: I left a comment on the Gresham Hotels Facebook page, it got deleted and I got removed from their page….nice.

  1. Thats very Disappointing Val. Like you I always check prices a few times before booking and with different sites.
