North Carolina BBQ Night at The Glasshouse, Sligo

Yee-haw! Grab your Stetsons and your Cowboy boots and head down to The Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo town on a Thursday evening during the summer. After a hugely successful curry night, they have worked their magic again and come up with a North Carolina BBQ night, and it’s incredible!

I was delighted to be invited along to try it out, and as soon as we walked in it was like being on holiday (if we didn’t look out of the window at the lashing rain!) The tables were adorned with red tablecloths, balloons, the North Carolina flag, and colourful flowers. The staff were all wearing cowboy hats, and country and western music was playing.

We were shown to our table and offered a glass of house wine or a Lough Gill IPA Lost Armada. I was driving so I had a zero-alcohol glass of wine, it was lovely.

The North Carolina BBQ board was piled high with food! It was a sharing board for two people and included:
“Tootsie Tomanetz “Slow cooked 24hr Beef Brisket with Sticky Sauce
Strip of Dry Rub Pork Ribs
Full Chicken Wings, Bourbon and Garlic Glaze
Smoked Spicy Handmade Beef Sausage
Skewered Vegetables
There was also hot sauce and BBQ sauce on the board.

We were also given Buttered Corn on the Cob and a Baked potato each.

The food was so flavourful that we didn’t use any of the extra sauces. It was delicious! My favourite was the beef brisket; it was smothered in sauce and wrapped in a package that you untied. It melted in the mouth, and I’m hungry again just writing about it! Jono’s favourite were the ribs, closely followed by the wings.

There was a little sweet treat to finish off our meal. It was strawberry ice cream, served in a biscuit sandwich with fresh fruit. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening, thank you so much to the hotel for inviting us along.

The Glasshouse team are so talented at creating magical experiences, and if you are looking for something different, I’d highly recommend this one. It’s definitely one for meat lovers though. For those of you who are gluten intolerant, there was only one dish containing gluten and that was the sausage.
