Monday Musings

I didn’t do a Sunday Thoughts blog post yesterday, so I’m doing a Monday musings post today. It’s a bank holiday so it kind of feels like a Sunday, or it would if I wasn’t rushing around this morning.

There are a couple of birthdays on the horizon, Jono’s on Wednesday and Andy’s next Monday. I never feel organised, and I probably never will. I popped into town to get a few things for Jono though. I’ll worry about Andy’s birthday after that. It’ll also be our wedding anniversary on Andy’s birthday too. Top tip don’t get married on a birthday, it gets forgotten about.

I’m wondering about the Sunday Thoughts blog posts, not many people read them, and no one ever comments on them, but then I remember that the blog is about me writing rather than people reading. In a strange way it’s nice to look back on them from time to time to see where my head is at.

I’ve had contact with a lovely person about my Grandad, I didn’t know much about him, he died 8 years before I was born. My mother always spoke so highly of him, she thought the world of him, and maybe she never got over him dying when she was only 24. It’s been wonderful to hear about his mother, and his brothers and sisters. I didn’t know he had such a big family. I can’t wait to write more about this, but for the moment it’s on hold, because there’s more for me to discover.

I was off exploring on Saturday; I ended up in Drumsna in Co. Leitrim. I’m going to write more about that in another blog post because I took lots of photos that I’d like to share. It was a lovely morning though. When I got to Carrick on Shannon I had waffles for breakfast. I got them in O’Halloran’s and sat in the car and ate them, it was nice to spend some time with my own thoughts and not sitting in a busy café. I have something lovely to show you – the reason that I went to Carrick on Shannon, but that will have to wait until next week.

I also bought overnight oats in O’Halloran’s, and they’ve done me and Jono for the past two days. They are very filling, but also very lovely. Do call into that shop if you are in Carrick on Shannon. It’s a gorgeous sweet shop and they do amazing hot chocolate made with Belgian chocolate too.

It’s blowing a gale here today and it has been for most of the weekend, not like June weather at all. I’m going to say the annoying thing now. Do you think we’ve had our summer?

In other news I’ve joined Substack, I haven’t a notion about it, but I’ve joined anyway. I’ve written a couple of poems, so I might share them there. They aren’t really in keeping with the blog, so Substack might be better. I also wrote a piece about Indie Authors Ireland, and you can read that here. I’m also delighted to be part of the Indie Authors Ireland Anthology, all proceeds will be going to As I am – Ireland’s Autism Charity. You can preorder the kindle version here.

That’s about all my news for now. I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the bank holiday if you are in Ireland.

  1. Dear Val,

Keep writing, despite the lack of responses! I adore your posts and they help keep me in touch with my ancestral roots. I feel the tug of Ireland (despite just returning home from there) every time I read your blog.
