Sunday Thoughts

It’s the first Sunday of 2025, and I thought I wake up to a blanket of snow this morning, or that’s what the weather gurus on Facebook had people believing. From seeing various posts online in previous days, there was panic buying in the run up to the ‘big freeze’ and in some towns there wasn’t a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk to be had. Thankfully we just had a few snowflakes last night, and it’s pretty much all gone today. It is very cold though, and it’s really the ice that I don’t like, so hopefully we won’t get too much of that. The south of the country seems to have it quite bad though.

I hope you all have a very happy new year, we had our usual new year party, a joyous occasion as always. It’s funny that people now look for our family photo every year!

I’ve had a quiet week, and not really done much of anything, except watching TV (Squid Game and The Traitors), and reading. I finally finished a book! That’s a rare thing for me – and I wished I hadn’t because the ending was awful. It was almost like the writer was told to just finish it! Hopefully the next book will be better (it can’t be much worse).

There was a lovely surprise this week. A photo I took at Markree Castle was included in the Crann – Trees for Ireland calendar. They kindly sent me two extra calendars, so I’ve decided to do a competition. If you are in Ireland and you need a calendar, leave a comment and I’ll put you in the draw. Winner picked at random on the 10th of January.

I’m off to Manchester in a few weeks, I hope the weather plays ball! It’s to see the Magnum tribute to Tony Clarkin, who passed away last year. For those who don’t know where the Magnumlady comes from, it’s from the UK rock band Magnum, I’ve been a fan since I was 16, and I’m looking forward to seeing the tribute, although it won’t be the same without Tony.

There’s been great interest in my blog post about Afternoon Tea in Sligo. It’s also at the top of the Google rankings when you do a search, so that’s quite an honour.

I don’t really have any other news, I hope you are all keeping warm and well, and thanks as always for reading. Wishing you all a good week ahead.
