Sunday Thoughts

Welcome to another Sunday Thoughts. I sit here looking out of the window at the storm gaining momentum. We are on an orange storm warning today here in Sligo, I was meant to go into town to meet a friend but it’s not worth the risk, and even though sometimes the storms amount to nothing it’s better to be safe than sorry.

It’s been a really busy week and weeks where my routines are different unsettle me a bit. I process things for hours and days after they happen and this week even though I’ve been so tired I’ve found it very difficult to switch off. The lack of exploring isn’t helping either.

I was on local radio on Monday talking about the sudden closure of Achonry Farmers Market. You can listen back here. I still think that things could have been done differently but I’m just commenting as a regular visitor. The good news is that there will be two Christmas markets and I’m happy about that.

We had our work open day on Tuesday. It was great to see some of the team again and to see so many people attending the event. I was in photography/podcasting mode – two of my happy places. I find both very calming, so I was happy out.

Talking of happy out, the book has gone to print. Honestly, I’m so stressed about it. I remember when I was pregnant, I had these awful dreams about alien babies and things going wrong and I’m getting like that with the book. I won’t rest until I have the physical item in my hand, and I know that it’s all good. I’m also gearing myself up about book launches, these are very much out of my comfort zone, I did ask Louise if I could just put a cardboard cut-off of myself in the room and arrive (and leave) two hours before the event, but sadly that’s not going to happen. I’m telling myself it’ll be grand (which if I ever bring out another book will be the title of it!) The image at the top of the blog is one that didn’t make it into the book – it was like being an X Factor judge deciding what stayed and what went!

We are heading towards Halloween and mid-term season and if you are looking for things to do in Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon I have a blog post of events. It might be of interest. Note to self; don’t do one of these again, it took hours to compile, and I didn’t make a cent from it, not that it’s about the money but I do have a tip link, and all donations are gratefully received.

I went into town yesterday and it was the first time this season that I’ve had to scrape ice from my windscreen. It was lovely to see blue skies though and the hanging baskets still in bloom. I met a friend and enjoyed a great chat and coffee and of course cake.

I called to Liber book shop, an online friend of mine – Lorna Sixsmith has recently released a book and Liber got it in for me. I’m looking forward to reading it, and best of luck to Lorna, she’s been very helpful answering all my self-publishing questions.

I should stop yapping now and have a cuppa in case we lose the electricity. I wish you all a happy week ahead, I’ve got a wonderful podcast on the way featuring one of my favourite places in Roscommon, so watch this space.

  1. I’m delighted that you got a copy of my book from Liber, thank you for ordering it and I do hope you enjoy. I’m excited about your book and look forward it to having pride of place as a coffee table book in my writing room.

  2. Hi Val,

    Long time.

I do hope the amber weather warning didn’t prove too destructive and unsettling.

Quite a few parts of your post resonate with me also.

For me today has been quiet and settled although weather wise here in Lancashire the wind blew abit later in the afternoon.

    Take care

    Margaret ❤️😊

      1. Hi Val,
        Wow, another Sunday.
Thank you for visiting my blog also and to hear from you.
        Lovely, sunny day here today.
Coincidentally my cousin in Ballyshannon’s husband has recently been a patient in Sligo hospital and is hoping to be discharged today.
It is the 10th anniversary of her mum’s death (my late mum’s youngest sister).
