The Harbour Cafe, Mullaghmore, Sligo

I finally got to The Harbour Café in Mullaghmore today, it’s been on my list since it opened. The café opened at the end of June, in the premises that was Eithna’s by the Sea.

Eithna posted this on Facebook in February:

“After much consideration over the last few months I have finally decided to permanently close the doors of Eithnas By the Sea bringing to an end over three decades of my passion and love of running what became an iconic Seafood Restaurant on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The current climate running small businesses has become very challenging, together with the difficulties of sourcing seasonal staff, have made this decision happen at this time..

I am indebted to the wonderful people both local and those who have come from all over the globe to support Eithnas ..the hard working teams who have come and gone over the many seasons, all the local suppliers, trades people who came at all hours, the local artists whose work both outside and inside helped to create the atmosphere/ website / flower arrangements and the many friends who stepped in in various ways in hours of need..thank you all from the bottom of my heart..

Memories have been made its time for a younger generation to take the helm..”

It was lovely to meet Jennifer and Jerome and the staff of The Harbour Café. Jerome was telling me that they don’t have a set menu because everything is sourced locally, the fish from Mullaghmore Sea Farm and the vegetables from Mullaghmore Farm – who specialise in sustainable, seasonal, organically grown produce. For example; this week the café served lobster rolls, because they had lobsters, and also a fisherman pie containing monk fish.

I was there for breakfast, and I’m not a fan of cooked breakfasts, and I thought I’d better not have cake two days running! So I ordered a croque monsieur, which was delicious and a cappuccino.

At the moment The Harbour Café is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. I’d like to wish Jennifer and Jerome all the very best on their venture. Find them on Instagram.

This isn’t a sponsored post, I paid for my food and drink. If this post was of interest and you’d like to support the blog, you can do so here.
