I was delighted to meet up with Johnnie Lawson and chat to him for my podcast. I’ve called it an interview but it really is more of a chat, and Johnnie shares the inspiration behind his work. I’ve been a fan for years, since I saw his beautiful videos on YouTube, and I finally met him earlier this year at the Leitrim Design House Creative Event – and I did fangirl!
Johnnie has almost half a million subscribers on his YouTube channel, and the video above has been viewed 47 million times! That’s incredible and very well deserved. Johnnie tells me on the podcast about the many messages he’s received from people all over the world, telling him what his videos mean to them.

I also had a lovely tour of Johnnie’s stunning garden, almost everything he grows provides food. I saw a couple of tiny frogs, and I heard a pheasant nearby. It’s such a beautiful place, and so peaceful. I saw a walnut tree, and so many other trees that I’d never seen before.

Johnnie has always been fascinated by the detailing the Catalan Architect, Antoni Gaudi used in his designs. He worked a lot of broken tiles and crockery into the detail of his architecture. Johnnie felt inspired to create something influenced by him, so he decided to create a ceramic snake winding it’s way up the edge of the porch. He put a call out on his social media channels for crockery and he met some wonderful people along the way. There is a story behind all the pieces used on the snake.
You can listen to our chat on my podcast. Thanks so much to Johnnie for taking the time to talk to me, it’s very much appreciated.
