Sunday Thoughts

Firstly I’m never drinking again! I’m feeling slightly worse for wear today and I didn’t even drink that much, but after a few weeks of not drinking half a bottle of wine really went to my head. I blame Lucy for coming over 😉 although I didn’t need much encouragement.

It’s been a good week, with some really interesting things. I enjoyed visiting Boyle Arts Festival on Friday, I recorded a podcast with Anna from Una Bhan, it was great to hear more about what they do there, and also about some of Anna’s favourite places in Boyle and beyond, and how dog friendly the town is. You can listen back here.

The icing on the cake was meeting Chris O’Dowd, and I’m grateful that he posed for a photo. I saw him filming Moone Boy in the town, some years ago, and you can read about that here.

I also loved seeing the art exhibitions, there are so many talented artists and it’s great to see their work on display.

I enjoyed see The Brothers of Charity Service Ireland, West Region and SPARKCATCHERS! who performed ‘Odras and the River Boyle’. It was a lovely event, and you can see the photos I took below:

Yesterday I went along to the Sligo Woodland School, The Sustainable Shared Spaces research team from ATU Sligo were running a series of interactive workshops within the community. I enjoyed chatting to Ruth from the ATU and giving my feedback about some of the outdoor areas in the county. There is room for improvement in quite a few of them, I suggested more plants, more seats, less of the concrete jungle look, to name a few things. I also think that community groups should be asked for their opinion, for example there’s a parklet on Quay Street, but it’s not at all suitable for people in wheelchairs.

It’s been a brilliant week for stats on the website, the ones above are just for this site, without the social media channels. Thanks so much to everyone who reads the blog and listens to the podcast, I’m very grateful. I’m still looking for a sponsor for the podcast, if that might be something that your business is interested in, just drop me an email: valrobus@gmail.com
