I was delighted to be invited along to Tempo in Ballisodare to taste test their new menu. I’m a big fan of Tempo and to try every item on their menu was my idea of heaven! I’ve often wanted to try a little bit of everything on menus, so this was right up my street!
Tempo has just launched their new menu, and there really is something for everyone. If you love meat, if you are vegan, if you can’t eat gluten, Tempo has you covered. It’s the perfect place to bring all the family, and know that they’ll enjoy the food – and it’s not just food, the dishes are a work of art.
They’ve kept some of the favourites from the previous menu, so for breakfast you can still enjoy Avo on Toast, The Notorius P.I.G, and more.
The head chef, Jason was explaining each dish to the staff, and everyone got to try a little bit of everything, so that they can explain the dishes to the customers.
The New Breakfast Dishes

Brioche French Toast
Sweet and Spicy Hot Honey Halloumi, labneh and toasted pistachios, on toasted brioche bread. The honey sauce is made using local honey, and this is absolutely delicious.

Mexican Benny
Chilli con Carne, guacamole, poached egg, cheese sauce, chipotle nacho crumb on toasted white bread. This can be made gluten-free, just asked when you order. I don’t usually like mince, but this was gorgeous.

Acai Bowl
Tempo Granola, peanut butter, toasted coconut, fruit and chia seeds, on a gorgeous berry base. This is a vegan dish. I loved this, it was very refreshing and a taste of summer. I stayed well away from the kiwi – I’m allergic. If you do have an allergy just tell the staff.

Hash Brown
Firstly, yes these are hash browns! Think curry flavour hash browns and you’ll get the idea. Crunchy potato hash, cashew makhani sauce, boondi, zhoug, yoghurt and poached egg. This can be made vegan and gluten-free. I really enjoyed this, it’s not like anything I’ve tried before, and it’s so nice.

The New Lunch Dishes
Firstly, who knew that cauliflower could be so interesting! The cauliflower is certainly the star of the show, in my opinion, and there are two lunch dishes that feature it.

Harissa Cauliflower
Harissa roasted cauliflower, peanut tahini, salsa Macha, toasted pine nuts, Zhoug, labneh and dukkha. This is gluten-free and can be made vegan. Just beautiful, what an idea for a dish!

Prawn Tostada
Cured prawns in a zesty aguachille sauce, cucumber, red onion and avocado, served on a crispy tostada. This is a gluten-free dish. I loved the crunch and the combination of flavours.

BIBIMBAP
Choose from chicken, pork belly or tofu.
Korean mixed rice bowl, fried egg, beansprouts, spinach, mushrooms, kimchi and cucumber. This is gluten-free and can be made vegan. Very light and refreshing, just gorgeous.

Birria Tacos
Slow cooked pulled beef short rib, melted cheese, onions and pico de gallo in a corn tortilla, served with beef dripping sauce. Years ago I had a dish similar to this, in a Mexican restaurant in London, it was so delicious, and I’ve never had anything that tasted the same, until this one. Fabulous. This is gluten-free.

Cauliflower Tacos
Photo credit Tempo. I was so excited to try these that I forgot to take a photo! This dish is the showstopper, it’s just amazing! You have to try it! Gochujang roasted cauliflower, kimchi aioli, house slaw, nori, salsa Macha, corn tortilla and corn ribs. Gluten-free and vegan.

Short Rib Toastie
Think of French Onion Soup in a toastie and it’ll give you an idea. Beef short rib, French onion, thyme, gruyere cheese on sourdough toast. Another wonderful dish, a combination of flavours that work so well together.

Kimchi Toastie
Kimchi croquet, gochugaru bechamel sauce, house kimchi, grilled cheese (vegan cheese can be used), gochujang mayo, on sourdough toast. Can be made gluten-free and vegan. Another brilliant dish, and one I really enjoyed.
To be honest I enjoyed all the dishes, and would be happy to have any of them again, they are all delicious, and a credit to the chef. My favourite dishes are the cauliflower tacos, the Mexican benny, the French toast, and the Birria Tacos.
Thanks so much to Tempo for inviting me along, it’s not often I get invited to things these days and I’m very grateful. I was invited because I often include Tempo in my Sligo Food News Posts. I’ve also been a customer since they opened four years ago. Find Tempo on Instagram.
