Sligo Food News – October 2023

Welcome to this month’s edition of Sligo Food news. The images above feature some of the food I’ve eaten out last month. The Biscoff Ice Cream Sundae and the loaded cheese fries were at Flipside, the bottom left is the Acai Bowl at Dock 84, and the bottom right are hot cakes at Tempo.

Something new is coming to Sligo. ‘Funké’s Afro-Caribbean Kitchen’ will be opening soon on Grattan Street, Sligo. Their Instagram page said this will be a place which welcomes you with open arms, serves your coffee with a smile, will have you dancing to the best music and brings you delicious and soulful food. If you can’t wait, you can buy the Jollof sauce which is available at selected Supervalu Stores.

Pink Clover celebrate a year in business. They are at Drumcliffe Church, and well worth a visit. Check out their new Autumn scone… Apple, Raisin and Cinnamon. Served with homemade Apple Jam and Chantilly Cream. This is on my list!

Osta Cafe and Wine Bar and Hooked will be welcoming students and career changers to find out what’s involved in a career as a chef. From November 6th-12th, they will joining more than 50 professional kitchens across Ireland in participating in Chef Network Irl’s #OpenKitchenWeek

Cafe Mate has recently opened in the Wine Street Carpark. This is an South American Cafe, with a relaxed vibe and great coffee.

Cawley’s in Tubbercurry celebrate 59 years in business. Joe and Jean Cawley opened Cawley’s Hotel on October 1st in 1964, and their daughter Teresa alongside her husband Pierre, follow in the family tradition offering a warm welcome and home away from home. Check out the afternoon tea (above), this is just the dessert selection.

I’m sorry to hear the news that St. Honore is closing, this was a very special place and the cakes and pastries were gorgeous. I wish the owners and staff all the very best.

Thanks for reading, this post is just a guide and isn’t in conjunction with, or sponsored by any of the businesses mentioned. The food that I ate I bought.  Drop me an email if you have Sligo Food News for next month – valrobus@gmail.com
