Strandhill People’s Market was back open today after their break for the Sligo Airshow. The team have been busy redesigning the market, so now the aisles are wider and there is more space for wheelchairs or pushchairs to get around. It’s nice to have a wider area to walk around too. The colourful umbrellas are down lower too (and there seems to be more of them but that might be my imagination).

It’s always a lovely place to visit, I get there early because I’m not great with crowds, I gave myself a bit of a push today and took some photos of the stall holders, I was dying inside! This really is out of my comfort zone, and I really appreciate the stall holders who posed for photos, it’s such a hard thing for me to do to ask them.

I was so anxious that I didn’t hang around to have something to eat or drink, I kind of legged it out of there! I did buy some things to have at home though, and I bought a couple of birthday presents too. There’s such a lot of choice at the market, and it really is a must visit if you are in Sligo.

There’s a great variety of food to choose from too. One day I’d like to have a taster from each of the stalls, like a buffet, I think it would be epic!

I was especially delighted to actually speak to Ruth Cadden, Ruth is a wonderful artist but I’ve always been too shy to say hello, I think it’s because I’m such a fan of her work and I kind of felt not worthy. Anyway today I actually said hello, and Ruth is lovely, check out the beautiful art gallery that she runs in Sligo town alongside Graham Stewart. It’s called Vivid Studio Gallery and it’s on John Street.

I hope you like my photos, and do visit the market, you can find them on Facebook too. There is a huge amount of work that goes in to running the market and such a lot of work from each of the stall holders, so if you can support them please do. It’s so important to support small businesses.

A special mention to the lady who came up to me and said she follows me on Instagram, that made my day 🙂
