Barnardos Stand for Children

Barnardos mission is to make Ireland the best place in the world to be a child.

One thing has been made clear in the past few years; Ireland is not a model of how to treat children. We have promised many changes for children but not enough has changed. Children, particularly those living in disadvantage, have been low on the list of political priorities for far too long.

Barnardos believes that Ireland can and must do better. It is time to overhaul how we view children, their needs, rights and protection. Election 2011 is an opportunity to change Ireland into a country where children are prioritised, where their rights are promoted and protected and where their voices are heard.

Change takes vision, courage and leadership. It won’t be easy but with the right leadership, significant change is possible. Election 2011 holds possibility for real and lasting change that can improve countless children’s lives. Children don’t have a vote; those of us who do must make our vote count for children.

I personally think this is a wonderful campaign. I would urge you to watch the video and get involved on Barnados facebook page.

  1. Val we are very lucky here our local Labour candidate works for Barnardos! Ciara Conway had Fergus Finlay campaigning for her last Sat. in Dungarvan, my hubby is her Director of Elections and we are busy canvassing for her among the Labour women in Waterford. She’s a great role model and would make a great TD, so hopefully she’ll get in – has a genuine interest in kids and those with needs and issues wouldn’t be forgotten after 26th Feb. Pity you can’t vote for her! Good for you to highlight the charity.

    1. It’s a great campaign and something that is really needed. I found when Jono needed his surgery that very few people were interested in children’s health. It’s very wrong and should be changed.

  2. Great campaign, Barnardo’s do great work. It is always worth finding out which politicians in your area are familiar with this work and want to make changes for the better.

  3. An excellent subject to support and campaign for. Make sure all the politicians pledge to support it, those that don’t? Well I guess they won’t get the ‘x’ in the box. This is when votes can be made to count in real life democracy.
