Focus on Sligo Food – The Strand Bar and Mammy Johnston’s in Strandhill

I think it’s very important to say if you get good food and service these days, as people are very quick to complain about poor experiences, and I want to shine a spotlight on The Strand Bar and Mammy Johnston’s in Strandhill.

We were out over the weekend, and one of our party is coeliac, so they can’t eat anything with gluten in it. This can be a bit of a disaster when eating out, especially if they are a vegetarian as well (by the way I have a Sligo gluten free and diary free blog post), both places went above and beyond to check out gluten. I didn’t take a photo of their food by the way, so I’m sharing the photos of the food me and Andy had.

The staff that served us in both locations were quite young – and I’ve heard people complaining about some younger waiters, but they were brilliant and couldn’t have been more helpful. The waiter in The Strand checked with the kitchen to see what was available, and went back again to check if the chips were cooked in a separate fryer (they weren’t by the way), but they made a lovely goats cheese salad sandwich.

The server in Mammy Johnston’s checked the allergen guide, checked the order didn’t contain gluten, washed the ice cream scoop throughly and made sure the wooden spoon wasn’t cross contaminated.

I’d highly recommend both places if you are in Strandhill. Photo at the top of the blog of Strandhill on a nicer day – I’m not going to mention the weather!
