Here we are, the last Sunday in November, and I’m looking out the window at a very flat, grey day. Rocket-dog is snoozing in his bed and snoring quietly – good enough for him as he woke me up several times during the night!
It’s been one of those weeks, where the things that were meant to happen didn’t happen, and plans got changed at the last minute. It’s one of the most difficult things when you see the people that you love upset or in pain. I always wish it was happening to me and not them.
Life can be so frustrating when things outside your control go wrong, and there’s not a thing you can do to change it. I found myself going down the whole ‘everything happens for a reason’ road, but sometimes I do get fed up of always looking for a positive.
I was driving along and Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House started playing, I started really listening to the lyrics and they make a lot of sense:
“There is freedom within
There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There’s a battle ahead
Many battles are lost
But you’ll never see the end of the road
While you’re travelling with me”

As all of my original plans didn’t happen, I did get to go to my work Christmas party, I didn’t know how much I needed a night out until I went. Shy and retiring Val was nowhere to be seen, and my inner Beyonce came along! I can’t even blame drink because I wasn’t drinking. It was an amazing night, we went on a 1920s themed murder mystery and then had a karaoke session – I can’t sing, but it didn’t stop me – and I left my voice behind!

I’m so grateful to work with such a fantastic team, I don’t see them very often, but it’s always wonderful when I do. It was such great fun, and even better not to have a sore head the next day. I also loved dressing up, another thing that surprised me.

I’ve spent the last few weeks compiling the Shop Sligo Gift Guide, this took up way more time than I anticipated and I’ll have to have a good think before I do another one, or come up with another way of doing it. I’m very grateful to everyone who took part, and I love the range of gift ideas. There really is something for everyone. That was my week in a nutshell, I think it’s good in some ways that we don’t know what’s ahead of us sometimes. I hope you are all keeping well, and thanks as always for reading. Please do leave a comment, I know a lot of people read the blog, but I get very few comments and I’d love to hear from you.
Always look forward to reading your Sunday Thoughts,
Yes there are times when you can only “control the controllable”
You looked great in your 1920s theme, nice to do something completely diffent.
Thanks Jacqueline. They are very wise words x
