Sligo Folk Park

I’ve been to Sligo Folk Park several times over the years. The park is in the beautiful village of Riverstown – which is a lovely place to visit in itself. The folk park has had a fantastic makeover recently and it was an absolute pleasure to go back and see the place looking so well.

If you want a trip down memory lane and get a glimpse of how rural Ireland would have looked at the turn of the 19th century Sligo Folk Park is a must visit.

 

As always I took way too many photos, so I’ll just share a few because I think it’s a place you need to visit yourself – and it’s only a fiver to get in! There is so much to look at, in fact I think I’ll have to go back again because I couldn’t take it all in.

I love the Village Street, the attention to detail in the shop windows is just something else. I particularly liked the chemist shop window and the room of books.

I loved that the chickens roam free – one of them was following me – which just adds to the charm.

Millview House is just a wonderful place to look around. The attention to detail in the rooms is brilliant, especially the clothes. I almost felt like I’d gone back in time and the family who lived in the house would be back at any moment.

Probably one of the highlights is that Sligo Folk Park has a jacket belonging to Constance Markievicz on display. This is just very special.

I’m not going to tell you too much because you really do need to visit yourself. Sligo Folk Park is open from 9.30am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. You can find out more on their website. Well done to all involved on the recent makeover, the place looks fantastic and is a credit to them.
