Just in case you are looking for a bit of inspiration for gift ideas/shops in Sligo I thought I’d do a blog post that might be of some help.
Sligo is the #adventurecapital so why not give the gift of adventure? Many of the activity providers have vouchers for sale and it’d be something for the recipient to look forward to in the new year. There’s Supforall, Island View Riding Stables, Seatrails, Wild Wet Adventures, Wild Atlantic Ways, Wave Sweeper, Lough Gill Tours, Strandhill Surf School, Harbour Sup ‘n’ Sail, Sligo Aero Club, North West Surf School…and those are just the ones I’ve tried!
Sligo has some wonderful, unique shops. I’m not going to mention them all or I’d be here for a month but here are some of my favourites.
The Cat and the Moon, located in Castle Street, Sligo. They have a wide range of art and craft and some beautiful jewellery. Everything is hand-crafted or hand designed in Ireland. The good news is that you won’t miss out if you don’t live in Sligo because they have a great new website.
Right next door to The Cat and the Moon is Kate’s Kitchen where you can buy ready to order hampers, foodie gifts and they even have a pampering section.
Cosgrove and Son Delicatessen, one of Sligo’s oldest shops and a feast for the senses. It’s like stepping back in time as soon as you walk through the door.
Liber Bookshop on O’Connell Street, Sligo. A great independent book shop that we are lucky to have here in Sligo. They are happy to order any books for you if they don’t already have them in stock. They are also an agent for Ticketmaster.
Canning’s House and Garden. Lots of ideas all under one roof, a florist, chemist, pet shop, gift shop and more.
Lollypotz – got a chocoholic in your life? This is the place to go, chocolate bouquets in a wide variety of designs. Fiona and Brendan can also custom make them, when it was our wedding anniversary I got Andy a dark chocolate arrangement and he got me an arrangement with a ring hidden in the middle! They are also online and deliver to the UK and Ireland.
The Wine Buff – talk to Joe, genuinely one of the nicest people in Sligo. He will give you any advice on the perfect wine for that special person. He also has very special WB Yeats wine glasses.
Le Fournil: Christmas cakes, chocolates and more. You’ll be spoilt for choice.
Angelworld – heavenly gift ideas and service with a smile from Marleen and her staff.
How about a ticket for an upcoming show? The Hawk’s Well Theatre will look after you.
No one can go wrong with a voucher for a meal and we have some fabulous restaurants here in Sligo including Eala Bhan, Tra Ban, Harrison’s, Eithna’s by the Sea, The Draft House and that’s just to name a few.
How about a creative gift? You could book a lesson with Michael Budd Blacksmith, Tiffany Budd Goldsmith or Rachel Quinn Ceramics – again these are just a few to name but these are the crafts I’ve tried and loved.
A bit of pampering: seaweed bath vouchers from Voya in Strandhill or Kilcullen’s in Enniscrone. If you are looking for spa vouchers I highly recommend Solas Spa at the Radisson, Ciunas Spa at Cromleach Lodge, Eros Spa at the Yeat’s Country Hotel.
If you are still stuck for ideas try one of the fabulous markets we have in the Sligo region. The Strandhill People’s Market is on every Sunday and will have some Christmas markets on Friday evenings starting from December 4th. Beltra Market is on every Saturday morning and have some workshops taking place too. Rathcormac Food and Craft Market – Saturdays from 10-3pm. Sligo Farmer’s Market at the IT every Saturday morning. Drummartin Market, Aclare – every Saturday from 10.30-12.30.
Believe it or not that’s just a brief guide! Happy shopping!
