When WB Yeats won his Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923, he sat down to dinner in The Grand Hotel, Stockholm, Sweden with distinguished guests and members of the Nobel Academy. What they ate is now a mystery, as the menu for that year is missing from the Nobel Prize archive.
Yeats Day, together with SO Sligo Food Festival, have come together to celebrate this great award by running a competition to inspire a new menu, which will be cooked and served at the inaugural Nobel dinner.
Her Excellency Radikha Lal Lokesh, Ambassador of India, will be the guest of honour at the dinner in the magnificent Radisson on June 12, 2014, the eve of Yeats Day June 13th, his birthday. The event is being run with St Angela’s College and sponsored by Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo and its executive chef Joe Shannon.
The competition is open to anyone over 18. Deadline is Friday 18th April 2014. The use of Irish ingredients will be welcome. A cookoff for short-listed entrants will be hosted in St Angela’s Sligo on Tuesday 13th May 2014. There will be a cash prize of €500 for rthe winner and €250 for the runner up.
