Well a really busy day today what with one thing or another. I heard the Rick O’Shea 2fm radio show was coming to Sligo and we are big fans and I ‘tweet’ them on a regular basis so we had to go in and meet them
As you can see I was starstruck (as usual) Rick and Cormac are really nice guys. I sponsored Rick for the RTE 2fm ‘Dress-up for Barnardos ‘, which you can find here.
On the way home there was a little dog running all over the road. We stopped the car and tried to catch him but he was so fast and running all over the place. It was horrific the amount of cars that just didn’t slow down though
In the end he ran towards a church so I’m really hoping he went home. Poor thing.

Well I wasn’t going to watch it. I refused to watch it but everyone on twitter was going on about it…..so I switched over and it doesn’t get any better! For those outside of Ireland, who may not have heard about it (lucky things), I’m talking about the Rose of Tralee. Which is Ireland’s version of Miss. World I suppose. Although there is more emphasis on education, personality and ‘talent’ instead of parading around in bikinis.
I had to laugh at this bit of it. What on earth happened to the band? It sounds like their batteries ran out at the end of the song!
Also what about this Rose who I thought looked like a demented chicken with anger management problems, although I don’t think that was the idea.
There are plenty more clips of the show on Youtube, if you want to subject yourself to the torture watch them.
It all reminds me of Father Ted and the Lovely Girls competition.
What I’d like to know is why is there now male version of the show? We could have the ‘Thorn of Tralee’.

Today Jono and I went to the Skreen/Dromard Community Centre where the Celebrity Bainisteoir was unveiled. There was a huge turn out for the event. The community centre is a great place. There is a lovely children’s playground and a great running track, there’s even a long jump.
The weather was lovely and the kids were all enjoying themselves with the disco, bouncy castle and face painting.
It’ll be interesting to see how the team do with their new bainisteoir. I wish them all the best. There are a few more pics here.

Last year I entered a photo into the RTE weather photo competition. I took the photo in March on a misty morning. I got a call to say my photo got into the final and that it would be shown on the weather occasionally. Thanks to Joe Cashin for taking this photo, I’ve known him for years over the internet but got to meet him on Wednesday.
I’ve seen it a few times and I’m always delighted when I do
Anyway I really didn’t think any more about it until this arrived a couple of weeks ago.
So Jono and I headed of on Wednesday. You know Jono if he thinks he will meet someone famous he’s there….plus there was food
We had a tour of the RTE radio and TV studios. The Late Late Show Studio is really tiny. We got to see how they do sound effects for radio shows. We also got to hear the National Concert Orchestra. Jono even got to sit at the Prime Time desk.
It was a really interesting tour, the only shame was that we didn’t get to look around Fair City. We could have gone afterwards but I was worried about missing the train and wasn’t too sure where I was going (as usual).
The weather presenters were all lovely. Nuala Carey spent a long time chatting to Jono. Evelyn Cusack was telling me she often picks my photo when she does the weather because it’s neutral and she can wear whatever she likes. There was also prize giving and I honestly didn’t think the finalist won anything but we did! So that was a lovely surprise. We got a hand crafted plate in a lovely wooden RTE box.
I took a bit of video which is below and the rest of my photo’s are here. I have to say a big thanks to SligoToday for giving me such a great write up…I was impressed myself when I read it! Also to Doug for dedicating a blog post to me….he’s convinced one day I will be rich and famous. Don’t hold your breath Doug

Well Off the Rails on tour in Sligo was on TV last night. I went around to my friends house with Lucy and we watched it together as we were all in the audience. There was a lot of cringing going on. To be honest they didn’t show a whole lot of Sligo. We were at the filming for four hours. It was all going very well and I didn’t think we’d be shown until right near the end and you can clearly see me in the background pulling the most gormless look possible.
If you are in Ireland and have nothing better to do you can watch the show on here (blink and you’ll miss me).
If you aren’t in Ireland and you want to see a small bit of the show (with us in the background) have a look here:
I had to bring my car to Boyle today. It’s been running a bit rough I thought. I’m mortified though because I said to the mechanic about ‘Revving the nuts off it!’ He just looked at me.
On the way to Boyle I stopped at the Gaelic Chieftain which is a sculpture along the N4. If you want to find out more about it click here.
Boyle is a nice little town. I took a couple of photo’s while I was waiting for the car to be fixed.

Off the rails is a fashion show on RTE here in Ireland. The show is on tour and today it came to Sligo. A friend of mine got tickets to be in the audience and ask me if I’d like to go too
We had to be there for 2pm and the show was held in the Quayside shopping centre. It was a long afternoon and the filming didn’t finish until almost 6pm. You’d never think so much went into the show unless you saw it live. The presenter’s had to do quite a few takes of the different links for the show. It’s certainly not glamorous being on tv and I wouldn’t want their job.
Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon and the presenters and they are both really friendly and down to earth. Brendan is really funny. We met both of them afterwards and got our photo’s taken with them. Brendan was saying he was on the train coming to Sligo on Friday and can you believe someone pinched one of his shoes! So if anyone see’s someone with one odd shoe going around Sligo it’s Brendan’s. By the way the rest of my photo’s are on flickr.

One of my photo’s was a runner up in the Spring quarter of the RTE weather photo competition. It was shown on tv a few times behind the weather forecast.
The calendar was enclosed in this weeks RTE guide. My photo didn’t get into the main part of the calendar but it is on the front page along with others:
Here’s my photo:

Misty Morning, originally uploaded by magnum_lady.
Yes another blog post….and yes this photo again. I know I’ve blogged it before.
I got a phonecall today from RTE to say my photo is going to be in the RTE weather calendar…..so I’m delighted about that.
The calendar comes in the RTE guide in December but they will send me some out as soon as they get them. Fame at last eh?

Where’s the sunshine?, originally uploaded by magnum_lady.
We were meant to have a heatwave today……I wonder what happened to it.
I took this photo this morning. I went for a short walk this morning. I haven’t had a run since Sunday when I managed to do 14 minutes. I’ve had a bad cold and feel quite rough, I’ve got a really sore throat as well and my voice is croaky. Jono is meant to be going for a check up on Friday and he’s got a cold and sore throat too so I’m hoping we’ll be better by then.
My photo is now on the RTE website
