IMG_8985Last week we had to go up to Dublin for Lucy and I to have blood tests in St. James’s Hospital. Our blood takes a while to clot so we tend to bruise easily and have nose bleeds and the hospital wanted to do tests to find out what was going on. It was an in-depth test so we had to go up the night before.

Aisling HotelWe stayed in the Ashling Hotel which was quite nice…the breakfast was fab! It was handy for the hospital, there was a big fight going on when we arrived though just outside our window. Luckily the hotel moved them on.

BreakfastWe got to the hospital at 9.30 when we were told too and got told off! The nurse said as we’d stayed in Dublin we should have got there earlier. There’s always one isn’t there!? We had our tests done and were sent away until the afternoon.

IMG_9023We got the LUAS into the city centre and had a look around the shops……although if you know me you’ll know I hate shopping!

IMG_9007 IMG_9008 IMG_9021I liked seeing the giant eggs around the place for the Big Egg Hunt. I also love how busy Dublin always is. There is always something interesting to see.

Real life statuesWe had to head back to the hospital to talk to the doctor. There was a protest going on there but it was a peaceful one.

ProtestThe doctor said a blood test Lucy had done some time ago had shown up that she had low blood factor 13. Apparently this is very rare, he wanted to check this out so he tested her again and also me to see if the same problem is there. We won’t be back again for 6 months though so that’s not too bad.

Sligo GeneralWell today I spent five hours in Sligo General A&E. Not through choice I have to say and I felt like a fraud. I went to the GP yesterday about my hand as it’s been swollen for quite a while and I didn’t know if it was connected to when I shut my finger in a shop door three weeks ago. Anyway the GP decided to send me to A&E to get it x-rayed. To cut a long story short the x-ray came back OK, nothing broken, I have soft tissue damage and they suspect Reynaud’s. The GP said that or maybe rheumatoid arthritis, so I must have a blood test next week at the local surgery. Thank goodness I don’t have to go back to the hospital again, there were some very smelly people waiting!

Shrek and DonkeyJust when I was at home this evening, the doorbell went. I answered it to find two French backpackers there. They were looking for a bed for the night. Part of me felt like the Inn Keeper with Mary and Joseph, the other part of me pulled the same face as Donkey above! We’ve never had that happen before…what if they were axe murderer’s? What if WE were axe murderers!? I said sorry and sent them into the village….sorry village people!

I’m hoping for a calmer day tomorrow :)

It’s been a really busy week. The pic above shows my ‘new hair’. Lucy is training to be a hairdresser so I went into her place and got my hair sorted out, it really needed it. I’m delighted with it, she did a great job. I also got my eyebrows waxed this week, the first time ever. I was so scared but it didn’t hurt a bit.

We paid another visit to Eala Bhan, this time I had ‘posh fish and chips‘, it was lovely. Didn’t do much for my healthy eating though. Oh well you must have a treat now and again.

I had to take Andy for a hospital appointment during the week as well. He had to have a lung function test. While he was having it done I took Lucy for something to eat. It cost over 12 euro for a chicken curry, a scone and a cup of tea! Rip off Ireland is alive and kicking in Sligo General Hospital. I almost keeled over. Seriously how can they charge that much? When Jono was in hospital in Tallaght I used to get a curry for less than a fiver. Anyway I’m rambling now, the pic above was taken in the hospital. I really hope no one used this ‘way out’.

Also during the week Jono had his monthly dinner out with his friends. They went to Shenanigans. While he was there Lucy and I went to see New Years Eve at the cinema. What a load of rubbish that was, not even the fact that Jon Bon Jovi was in it made it any better. It wasn’t funny at all and we had to go on the night when it was full of yobs and they were shouting back at the film.

We had snow yesterday, not too much and it didn’t last long. Some of the roads were a bit slippy in the morning though. After the kids finished their courses Lucy went shopping with her friend so Jono and I headed to Hazelwood for a walk. It was nice to get away from the madness and noise of the town. I’m not really a ‘shopping’ person.

So until the next blog, you’ll be glad to see the back of me ;)

This blog is a bit of everything really. Things are going well although I have upset someone without meaning to. I’m sad because I’ve lost a friend, I’ve apologised (although I don’t know what I’ve done wrong). I had a sleepless night about it last night but I’m not going to lose anymore sleep over it. It’s their choice not mine and if they don’t want my friendship anymore there is nothing I can do about it.

Enough about that. I had to take my mum for her annual check up yesterday. If you are a regular to my blog you will know she had bowel cancer. Anyway I’m delighted to say she got the all clear for another year. After her appointment we went for lunch in Dunnes.

When we went into Dunnes this little dog in the photo at the top of the page was waiting. When we came out he was still waiting :( So we were worried about him. One of the members of staff said he had been there all day. So I called the dog warden incase someone had reported him missing, they hadn’t. Mum went back into the shop to get the dog some treats and was talking to another member of staff who said he is at the store everyday but he goes home every evening. So panic over and luckily not a homeless dog.

Is it bad that I giggled when I saw the cookies above? I wonder will I ever grow up? Probably not.

Jono had to go back to Dublin yesterday for his check up about his spine. It’s a long day with a total of 8 hours travelling there and back.

We were apprehensive as when we went back in May we were told his spine was curving again and he might need another surgery.

The first thing he had to have was an X-ray. We went to the x-ray department and were told they weren’t sure exactly what kind of x-ray the consultant needed so we were sent back to out-patients to find out.

The consultant wasn’t there so we waited an hour to be told what was required, then back off to the x-ray department again only to be told we couldn’t have that kind of x-ray done on the day, we would have to come back another day after they had sent out an appointment! How mad is that. So there we were thinking we had travelled all that way for nothing.

Off we went back to out-patients again to tell them. The consultant couldn’t believe it. He said the health service here is like a third world country. He said no way would he make us travel again and he managed to request a smaller x-ray which could be done there and then thankfully.

After looking at the results. He said Jono’s spine hasn’t changed since May so that’s fantastic news and he doesn’t have to go back for a year. Unless we are concerned in anyway and he will see him sooner. We are over the moon let’s hope we are finished with hospital’s now.

The only thing Jono needs to do is physio to try and help his muscle tone.

It was a very long day but worth it to get such good news.

Yesterday was Jono’s check up in Dublin. So we set off bright and early for the hospital. Lucky this time there were no hold ups on the train.

Jono had his xray first and then got to see one Doctor. Then we had to wait to see the consultant. The consultant is a really nice man and explained everything to us and showed us the xrays. There is a gap between two of Jono’s vertebrae above where he had the fusion done. It has increased slightly since the last appointment. At the moment he is going to leave well alone as he said Jono is still healing. We have to go back again in October and see if it’s progressed anymore and if it needs surgery. Hopefully it’ll stay the way it is.

In the middle of the doctor talking to us a little child came into the room and started playing with the toys…it was very hard to hear what was being said and it took the childs mother about 5 minutes to come and take the child out of the room!

Anyway the consultant wrote lots of details about curves/degrees etc and he told us next time to come to the adult clinic as it’s less of a ‘zoo’….his words not mine.

After all that we made out way back to the city centre and had lunch/dinner in a fab Chinese place that had an all you can eat buffet…yum. We had a quick look around the shops. I got Lucy some little bits and pieces in a fab shop I found in the GPO arcade and Jono got himself a Pokemon Nintendo 64 console from the game exchange shop on Talbot Street.

We spent today recovering, it’s mad when you think it’s just under 8 hours return trip from Sligo to Tallaght on public transport. We did get a brief walk down to the beach today so that was nice.

Well not exactly tweety pie but a bird anyway.

I had a lovely day today. I was on my way to meet my friend in Ballymote for a coffee and a chat. On the way I just missed this little bird in the road. I stopped the car, he was dazed so I picked him up and sat him in the car for a while until he perked up. Then I let him back out, I put him on a tree in a field. He chirped at me and flew away :)

With all the excitement of the photo yesterday I forgot to tell you I got an ipod touch. I had birthday and Christmas money so I decided to treat myself…..also HMV were giving away a 25 euro itunes voucher with the ipod touches so that sort of swung it for me. Anyway Lucy has been teaching me how to put music on it and I think it’s great. I just wish I’d had it when Jono was in hospital.

Oh talking of hospitals I don’t know if I told you that Tallaght got in touch about Jono’s before and after photo. They want to use it in their training and to show other patients.. As they say a picture paints a thousand words. Jono is delighted, he hopes it gives others
inspiration.

I must share this video with you. I was taking photos of my friend today and said I’m better at taking photos of donkeys rather then people! Anyway this is a close encounter myself and Jono had at the donkey sanctuary in Castlebaldwin.

Well we seem to have gone back to Winter weather again. It’s really cold today….and yesterday was boiling. I wonder if it’s anything to do with the ash?

Todays photo is because it’s raining again….and to tie in the raining again theme we are going to see Supertramp :) They are playing the O2 in Dublin in October. Andy is a massive fan so I’ve got tickets and told him it’s his birthday pressie…..although he’ll have forgotten about that when his birthday comes around.

I spent Friday at the hospital with mum. They really wanted to do a biopsy but she is doing well at the moment and decided she wouldn’t want to know even if she has cancer again so she isn’t going through with it at the moment.

Then today I was back at the hospital with Andy. It was his check up. He had a chest xray and lots of blood tests…..no results yet though.

Onto other things. I upgraded my mobile phone. I now have a Nokia E52, it was only 30 euro. It’s very technical though, so it’s fun and games getting the hang of it. It has maps on it though…like a sat nav. If I had that on Saturday I wouldn’t have ended up in the arse end of beyond. I can also get internet radio on it…..good times :D

There hasn’t been a whole lot going on so I didn’t do a blog. This week seems very long. I keep thinking today is Friday.

I’ve been listening to i102 and all week they have been doing this experiment. Aparently if you talk and think about yourself nicely then you will look better and younger, then if you think horrible thoughts about yourself. So a charisma expert cut an apple in half and put one in a ‘hate’ jar and one in a ‘love’ jar. i102 have done the same and are being horrible to the ‘bad apple’ and lovely to the ‘nice apple’, aparently the bad apple rots quicker. I was tempted to try this myself….but I feel really sorry for the ‘bad apple’…..am I sad?? lol

Lucy finishes school tomorrow for two weeks…..yay I get to sleep in. We are going to see the X Factor next week. I got tickets for the kids as part of their Christmas pressie, we are looking forward to it.

We are also going to see a show called An Evening with Sgt. Pepper. It’s on in Sligo. Andy is a big Beatles fan and I love any kind of concert or show, it should be a good night out.

My mum got a call from the GP the other day asking her to go for a hospital appointment. What happened was mum had a scan last year and cancelled going back for the results. The hospital got onto the GP asking her to attend another appointment. Mum is now really worried that the cancer has come back. I really hope everything is OK. I’m not sure when the appointment is yet as she hasn’t got a date through.

Well I’ve been quiet for the last few days because I’ve had a really bad migraine. It’s finally gone now. This time my usual tablets didn’t work and there was so much going on I couldn’t rest but anyway I’m OK now.

This photo was taken in Hazelwood on Saturday. I love looking at boats (no idea why!)

Yesterday Jono had his first physiotherapy appointment. Funny enough he has the same physiotherapist that Andy has, his name is Charlie.
I did tell the lady that gave us the appointment that Jono has Asperger’s syndrome…..but she didn’t know what I was talking about. So I told Charlie as soon as we got there. Otherwise people tend to wonder why Jono isn’t looking at them, or why he doesn’t seem to understand certain things.

Anyway the appointment went well. We have to buy an exercise ball for Jono to sit on and he has to do some exercises to strenghten his shoulder and core muscles.

When we were in Sligo Jono got to look around the CRIB, it’s a youth club. It will be great for him to go there now and again.

Today Andy had his blood test at the hospital, so that’s two days running I’ve been in the hospital!

Tomorrow and Friday Jono has more appointments. So more trips into Sligo.

We had a nice relaxing evening tonight and watched Flight Plan. It was OK, I’ve seen better films though.
